Sant Llorenc is a charming village nestled in tall hills in northern Catalonia. This part of the region boasts spectacular natural scenery, picturesque towns and numerous historic landmarks. Meanwhile the Costa Brava is less than an hour from Sant Llorenc self-catering cottages, while essential cultural destinations such as Figueres are even closer.
Sant Llorenc holiday rentals are found in the valley of the River Muga, a fertile agricultural region boasting cereal farms, olive groves and vineyards. There’s also extensive woodland here, and you’ll be able to take relaxing walks and bike rides over rugged hills and through oak and pine forests.
The village itself boasts a number of beautiful old buildings. There’s the Romanesque Church of San Lorenzo, as well as the remnants of the Castle of Sant Llorenc, constructed in the 1100s. The town’s Old Bridge is also impressive and dates to the 1300s, featuring a three-arch design.
The Albera Mountains form one of the last spurs of the Pyrenees before the Mediterranean Sea, and are just minute from holiday cottages in Sant Llorenc. It’s a landscape of immense natural beauty, covered by forest and boasting a number of Megalithic structures such as menhirs and dolmens. The countryside here offers a habitat for the wild Albera cow, which roams the region with total freedom.
Figueres is lovely old town that sits no more than 20 minutes from Sant Llorenc self-catering villas, and is associated with the surrealist artist Salvador Dali, who was born here. There’s a large and otherworldly museum devoted to his work, while the town also features a number of sites of historical importance, including the huge Castell de Sant Ferran fortress.
It would be well worth making the 50 minute car journey to the Mediterranean from a Sant Llorenc holiday rental. The resort of Roses and nearby Cap de Creus peninsula offer a tremendous variety of beaches, from long stretches of sand affording all kinds of water sports and beachfront activities, to tiny secluded coves, accessible only on foot or by sea.
At a Sant Llorenc vacation rental you’ll be able to expect warm dry weather throughout the summer months. Winters here can be cold, due to the high elevation, and snow is not uncommon in December and January. The rest of the year is usually either mild or pleasantly mild.
Girona Airport (GRO) is under 60 kilometres from Sant Llorenc self-catering cottages, and can be reached from the UK via Ryanair, with year-round flights to this destination from Birmingham (BHX), Manchester (MAN) and London Stansted (STN).
