Orange City is in Volusia County, close to the historic city of DeLand. It has a number of buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places including the Memorial Library, the Town Hall, the Louis P. Thursby historic home and the Seth French House, former home of a local surgeon and Civil War veteran. The area is full of natural attractions. See manatees in the beautiful Blue Spring State Park, explore the waterways in a boat or airboat and take a trip to beautiful New Smyrna Beach. This local museum is located in the historic Old Post Office Building off Canal Street, at nearby New Smyrna Beach. The interesting displays tell the story of New Smyrna’s development as a community of Mediterranean indentured colonists under Dr Andrew Turnbull.
Just a short drive from your Orange City apartment is the Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral. Exhibitions, displays, an IMAX theatre and simulators all show the history of space exploration from this interesting launch site. There may even be a shuttle launch during your stay so checkout the space center website.
Orange City enjoys hot summers and mild sunny winters making it very popular with visitors in all seasons. Winters are mostly dry with average daytime temperatures around 21°C (70°F) while summers reach a hot and humid 33°C (92°F) during July and August. These months also get the most rainfall, in short but heavy afternoon showers.
The closest major airport to your Orange City vacation home is Daytona Beach International Airport which is just 22 miles from Orange City. Alternatively the Orlando International Airport is 36 miles away.
