Holidaymakers looking for a beautiful and fascinating place to visit in Central Europe should try the Slovenian capital city, Ljubljana. Located in the centre of the country, Ljubljana offers many interesting things to do and see. Visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, B&Bs, apartments and campsites.
Holidaymakers in this beautiful city can explore some very scenic areas by walking and cycling. In the winter visitors can take to the mountainous areas of the country with several ski resorts located within an hour of the airport. Holidaymakers can try downhill skiing and snowboarding at resorts such as Bled and Krvavec.
Ljubljana has numerous tennis courts open to the public and there is a nine-hole golf course here too. The waterways in this part of Slovenia enable visitors to try various watersports such as fishing, kayaking and rafting, and there is an aqua park in the vicinity as well. About an hour and a half away visitors can enjoy a day at one of the lovely beaches in Slovenia on the Adriatic coast.

The city has fantastic places to visit including many historic buildings. Ljubljana Castle dominates the hill over the River Ljubljana and was originally built in the 12th century. There are many attractive religious buildings in the city such as St. Nicholas Cathedral, St Peter’s Church and the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation. Other popular pieces of architecture in the city are Dragon Bridge, which is considered to be one of the finest works in the Vienna Secession style and the Butcher’s Bridge.
Ljubljana is home to several fine museums and galleries such as the Museum of Modern Art, Slovenian Museum of Natural History and the National Gallery. Tivoli Park is pleasant place for holidaymakers to explore with its different types of trees, flower gardens, statues, fountains and a late 19th century fish pond. The Ljubljana Botanic Gardens is another excellent place for holidaymakers to visit.
July and August are the warmest months of the year in Ljubljana with average high temperatures of 26-27 degrees centigrade. The coldest month is January with average highs of 2 degrees centigrade and lows of -4 degrees. October is usually the wettest month with an average of 150mm rainfall, whilst in the winter there can be plenty of snowfall.
Ljubljana Jože Pu?nik Airport (LJU) is approximately 12 miles north of Ljubljana and has flights from several international airports. Adria Airways operates flights from Amsterdam (AMS), Belgrade (BEG), Brussels (BRU), Copenhagen (CPH), Istanbul-Atatürk (IST), London-Gatwick (LGW), Moscow-Sheremetyevo (SVO), Munich (MUC), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Vienna (VIE), Warsaw (WAW) and Zürich (ZRH) amongst others.
