Things to do on holiday in Los Gigantes, Tenerife

Los Gigantes has its own beach; a black sand beach which is both safe for children and very rarely crowded. If you would prefer to relax on a larger beach, the Blue Flag, black sand beach of Playa la Arena is just two miles away from accommodation in Los Gigantes. Playa la Arena does experience some strong currents, so inexperienced swimmers should be careful. There are many opportunities to go deep sea fishing in the rich waters which surround Tenerife, and maybe catch that record fish!

The pedestrianised centre of the town is delightful, focused around the small church. There are many little restaurants and cafes around the centre, where you can loose many hours without realising it! The week after Ash Wednesday, the pedestrianised region becomes awash with entertainment as the carnival arrives in town.

The marina is the starting point for a huge number of boat trips around the island, which manage to perfectly combine dolphin and whale watching trips with sightseeing, water sports and large, boozy meals! The marina is really the hub of activity in the village, with scuba diving, sightseeing, deep sea fishing and sailing trips all leaving from here.

Los Gigantes accommodation is the perfect base for a holiday of getting pampered. There are some magnificently relaxing spa facilities in the town, and some wildly entertaining al fresco shows to see, from cabaret to dance.

Puerto Santiago is a lovely half hour walk along the cliff top from a villa in Los Gigantes. Puerto Santiago is a modern yet relaxed resort, with a fine beach and even better scuba diving school. There are a huge number of sporting facilities in Los Gigantes, so if you feel like a game of tennis, golf or bowls, a trip to Puerto Santiago will not disappoint.

The annual average temperature in Los Gigantes is over 20˚C, with temperatures peaking in the incredibly dry summers often reaching the high 30’s. Even during the winter, temperatures rarely dip below 17˚C, and showers are only likely between the end of October and the start of April.

Flights to Reina Sofia Airport (TSF) land regularly from the UK, with the cheapest options being provided by either EasyJet or BMI. Although the trip from the airport to a Los Gigantes villa is one of the longest journeys possible on the island, you can be settling into your rental accommodation in under an hour and a quarter from leaving the airport.
