Just to the north of the famous salt lakes of Torrevieja is Los Montesinos, a beautiful town of the southern Costa Blanca in Spain. There is a strangely modern feel to the village, despite its Roman origins and surrounding orange and lemon groves, which are so typical of the area.

There are some wonderfully timeless cafes in which to watch the world drift by, and the town of Torrevieja is just 10 minutes by taxi or car, giving you countless options if you would prefer more lively nightlife than that of the cafes and bars in Los Montesinos. Also worth mentioning is that the restaurants and bars in Los Montesinos are very traditional Spanish establishments, meaning that when eating out in Los Montesinos, you will be able to try a great range of local delicacies, cooked exactly as they were intended to be, including paella, cocido con pelotas (minced meatballs) and calabaza y boniatos (roasted pumpkin and sweet potato).

The Torrevieja Salt Lake Nature reserves are magnificent assets on Los Montesinos holidays. Both are filled with nature, especially bird life, and wonderfully peaceful. Walking, horse riding and cycle paths cross throughout the parks, giving anyone with a love for the great outdoors many hours of pleasure. The migratory flamingo communities are particularly spectacular when they are in residence.
