The Sierra Maria - Los Velez Natural Park is the main draw for the region, and the home of a diverse range of flora and fauna. As with most parks of its type, the main activities are all outdoors, and include nature walks, hiking trails, bird watching and horse riding.

Los Velez properties are well positioned to be used as a base for exploring the Costa de Almeria region. Lorca is the nearest medium-sized town, being 60km away and the home of around 90,000 residents. Amongst other attractions, the town has good shopping facilities and several historical sites of interest, with the jewel in the crown being a castle that dates back to the 10th century. In and around Los Velez, golf is also a favourite pastime. The use of a car is required to get between courses, but once there, you will be glad you made the drive, and the weather is almost always obliging.

The climate is very dry in this part of the Andalucía region, with almost endless sunshine all year round. July and August are the hottest months, with a daily average of around 30C, but even winter months are warm and see little in the way of rain.

The best way of reaching the Los Velez area is to fly to Murcia – San Javier Airport (MJV), which is around 130km from the town of Velez Blanco – a journey that will take around an hour and a half. The flight time from London is just under two hours.
