Holidaymakers looking for a beautiful scenic village in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of Southern France may like to visit Lozere. This is a great place to spend a vacation with plenty of things to see and do in the region. Here visitors will find numerous different places to stay including self catering accommodation, holiday homes, villas, apartments and gites.
Holidaymakers can enjoy wonderful hiking trails in the Cevennes National Park with some fantastic views to be enjoyed for keen photographers. Visitors to the area can also try alpine and cross country skiing on Mont Lozere as well as mono-ski, snowshoeing, snowblading and sledging. There are many excellent 18-hole golf courses and tennis courts in the region. Lozere is located close to many of the region’s vineyards and wine tasting is a very popular pastime here. The lakes and streams nearby offer wonderful fly fishing and coarse fishing opportunities for keen anglers. Holidaymakers looking for a day out at the beach can drive two hours to the coast and enjoy the warm Mediterranean sunshine as well as various watersports. There are a number of restaurants, bars and cafes in and around Lozere offering traditional French fare. Self catering holidaymakers will be able to purchase food and beverages from numerous stores and farmers markets in the area. There a shops in the area selling various gifts and souvenirs.
Lozere has many interesting places to visit including a gothic cathedral and Romanesque church. Geological features in the region include the volcanoes of Mount Ramus, Demoiselles cave and the River Herault. Tours around the Paul Ricard caves can be taken here too. There are several museums in the region including Musee-Parc des Dinosaures de Meze, which is in one of the largest paleontological sites in Europe. Also well worth visiting is the wonderful Parc National des Cevennes, which features the Aven Armand cave and the Arboretum de Cazebonne.
This region in the South of France is mild throughout the year but is hottest in July and August when the temperatures reach an average high of 25 degrees centigrade. As well as being the coldest months of the year at an average of 10 degrees centigrade, December and January are also the wettest with around 100mm of rain per month on average.
Lozere is about 75 miles drive from Rodez-Marcillac Airport (RDZ). RyanAir has flights to and from London-Stansted (STN) and Porto (OPO). Four car hire firms are established at Beziers Airport including Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Quote. Taxis can also be found just outside the terminal building. Alternatively Nimes Airport (FNI) is approximately 95 miles from Lozere. RyanAir has flights to and from Brussels-South Charleroi (CRL) and London-Luton (LTN). There are taxis available outside the terminal building and five car hire firms are situated at the airport, which are Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and National Citer.
