Promenades were made for strolling, and the lovely promenade in Makarska is lined with palm trees, giving a tropical feel to the horseshoe shaped bay. Cafés, bars and small boutiques overlook the harbour where pleasure boats bob at their moorings.

The main square in the town is presided over by the Parish Church of St Mark and has a regular fruit and flower market..

The main focal point in the town is the Franciscan Monastery which was built in 1614. For those who are interested in fossils and shells, there is a Malacological Museum in the basement of the monastery, with a giant clam shell.

An action-packed day is promised at Omis, an ancient town built on pirating just 37km from your villa in Makarska. It is known for its exciting water activities including rafting, kayaking on the Cetina River and paragliding.

Take a trip on a small boat to one of the nearby islands such as Brac, Hvar or Korcula. These boat trips give a true taste of Dalmatian life with fish, wine and authentic local music.

Split is just 60km from your self catering villa in Makarska and makes a great day out. This ancient Roman city has typical Dalmatian architecture. The Diocletian’s Palace, built by the Roman Emperor, dates back over 1700 years.
