Manilva has an amazingly long history for such a small settlement. The outstandingly preserved Roman Sulphur baths are testament to the village’s importance in the history of the area, and make for remarkable viewing too. To this day, people still swarm to the baths from many miles to relax in the white sulphur rich waters. The village church is a wonderfully understated 18th century building, and British tourists may be surprised by the abundance of English names in the adjoined cemetery.

The beach is just 3km from the centre of Manilva, offering miles of unspoilt, golden sands on which to relax. La Cala de la Sardina stretches for over 7km, and is one of the most secluded, tranquil and peaceful beaches anywhere on the Costa del Sol. Fishing from Manilva beach is a magnificent activity, especially if you rise early and join the local fishermen. Watching the sun rise over the sea, rod in hand and listening to local tips always starts the day perfectly, and even if you fail to catch anything, the sense of peace and quiet will live with you for a long time.

Completely uninfluenced by the onset of tourism, Manilva is an excellent place in which to sample the finest of Andalucian cuisine. There are a handful of excellent family run restaurants and bars within the village, but no English style pubs or nightclubs. If you would like to experience a party from your Manilva holiday home, the Carnival in February is a magnificent time to enjoy Manilva accommodation. The horse racing at the Grape Harvest Fair, when the first wines of the season is tasted, is a fantastic time to visit the village.

If you are looking to take a day trip from a Manilva holiday rental, Gibraltar offers an excellent excursion. There are regular trips over to Gibraltar leaving from the port. Larger sightseeing trips leave from Puerto Duquesa harbour just a few miles along the coast.

During the summer months, temperatures can get very hot, reaching up to 40˚C in the midday heat of July and August. Temperatures are very warm from May until late October, with monthly average temperatures remaining above 20˚C.
