There are some beautiful walks and cycle routes to take around the village and into the surrounding countryside, which make a perfect afternoon's excursion after a long lunch sampling the regions exquisite cuisine. Bikes and walking route maps are readily available from the village.
The Aude region is famous for the astonishing historical sites that decorate the countryside. A Marcorignan gite is right in the heart of Cathars country, and there are many beautiful cathedrals to discover. The huge castle at Carcassonne, almost certainly the most impressive in the whole of France is just half an hour away, and Narbonne and Minervois are within easy reach too.
During the summer especially, the half hour drive to the Mediterranean is one which you will almost certainly take more than once. Narbonne Plage is the most obvious beach to visit, offering miles of soft, golden sand and a good range of water sports should you want them.

When staying in Marcorignan accommodation, you will certainly spend time exploring Narbonne. Narbonne is an old Roman town with a great range of historical monuments, authentic Languedoc restaurants and a twice weekly market selling the best local produce. The famous Canal du Midi also runs through the centre of town, offering excellent walks or canoe trips in both directions, perfect for burning off a little of your lunchtime excess!

The proximity to Languedoc's Mediterranean beaches will be a huge source of pleasure during the summer, even if your Marcorignan villa has a pool. Daily temperatures reach into the mid 30's (C) during July and August, and with some 10 hours of sunshine a day, sunbathing and lazy days on the beach are a real pleasure. Marcorignan is not only a summer destination though, as the spring and autumn months, when temperatures are reduced a little, provide the perfect conditions to really explore, whilst still being warm enough to have your evening meal outside.

The closest airports to a holiday rental villa in Marcorignan are Carcassonne and Perpignan, both around 40 minutes away by car. Although it is a small airport, Carcassonne receives direct flights from the UK, although there are a greater range arriving into Perpignan. A hire car is strongly recommended whilst staying in a Marcorignan villa, although it is possible to reach the village on public transport.
