Lazing on the beach in Meta seems many miles from the dirt and crowds of Naples. The beach lies at the base of a large cliff, accessible in parts by foot and in others by lifts, running up the cliff face. The dark sand of the beach is hugely atmospheric, and excellent for spending long days in the sun. Swimming in the sea off the beach at Meta is always a delight, and for the more active, there are plenty of opportunities to try windsurfing, water skiing and scuba diving. There is a long tradition of sailing and fishing in Meta, and there is nowhere finer to learn how to sail. There are regular fishing trips heading out into the Tyrrhenian Sea, as well as many excellent sailing schools.

The Sorrento Peninsula is a marvellous place to walk. The woodland carpeted hills are a joy to explore both in summer and winter. There are some fantastic marked trails throughout the region, many of which you can tackle on foot, on mountain bike or from the horse saddle.

The city of Naples lies just 40km away, and is certainly worth exploring, even if you only see the main tourist attractions. The ruins of Pompeii, 20km away, make for almost essential viewing from Meta accommodation, and the Islands of Capri and Ischia make for excellent day trips, especially if you are visiting for the scuba diving.

The warm Mediterranean climate of Meta results in wonderfully long, hot summers, with daily peak temperatures in the 30’s (˚C) expected daily from June until mid September. Evenings are wonderfully warm, allowing you to walk along the beach as the sun sets in shirt sleeves, or eat outside in the evening. Rain only usually falls in November and December, but even then, temperatures are unlikely to dip below around 12˚C during the day.
