To the south west of this is the attractive coastal city of Cartagena whose attractions include Roman ruins. This region has a mainly Mediterranean climate though despite its short distance from the coast can have more extremes of weather throughout the year. Summers are warm, but can get very hot at times. Winters are mild on the whole, averaging with a daytime high of 16C, which makes holiday accommodation here appealing at all times of the year. Only occasionally are there frosts in the winter.
