The area around Venice is well known for its Venetian villas, and Mira has some of the very best examples of these. Villa Foscari is perhaps the most famous, and – like many of the most top residences in the area – was designed by Italian architect Andrea Palladio, who is considered as one of the most important architects in European history. Also in Mira is the Villa Widman-Foscari, which was designed and built in 1719. Both of these villas are open to the public, and should be considered as the top places to visit by anyone heading to Mira.

The majority of villas such as these face onto the River Brenta, an unspoilt and attractive area that sees many cyclists and walkers travelling touring its banks. This is also where you will find a number of traditional fairs and festivals throughout the year. Shops, cafes and restaurants can also be found in Mira, with larger numbers in the nearby cities.

Mira is a great start point for trips around the Veneto region, and Venice is usually top of most visitor’s lists, followed closely by Padova. Mira has good transport links with places such as these, being a popular stop on both the bus and train routes between the two. It is also possible to make the short journey to Fusina and enjoy a 30-minute ferry journey across the lagoon to Venice.

Whilst staying in Mira you may wish to visit some of the other nearby towns that also line the Riviera del Brenta. Dolo (5km west) is one such town, and is perhaps best reached by bicycle, as this method allows you to take the unspoilt scenery in as you travel. Another option is Oriago, which is just a 4km journey in the opposite direction and has a number of sites of cultural interest.

The warmest months in which to visit Mira are July and August, when temperatures are commonly between 25C and 30C. As September arrives the temperatures start to drop, and snow over Christmas and New Year is not uncommon. Late spring is a particularly nice time to visit, when temperatures start to rise but tourist numbers are not quite at their peak.
