Make a holiday rental home or apartment in Modena, Italy your home away from home

Modena, the capital of the province of the same name, is located to the south of the Po valley in the unspoilt Emilio Romagna region of Italy. Such is the broad range of activities on offer in Modena and the surrounding area that it is easy to successfully combine days of sightseeing and outdoor adventure with evenings of fine wine and enjoying the excellent local cuisine in local restaurants. Take your phrasebook though – you are off the beaten tourist track in this historic part of Italy.

Things to do in Modena, Italy

Modena is often referred to as the ‘Capital of Engines’ due to its long association with the motor car industry, and if you always harboured a love for Italian sports cars you will be well at home in this destination. You may not be able to afford to rent a Ferrari in the famous shade of ‘Modena Yellow’, but you can always visit the Ferrari factory in the city, and you are always likely to see at least a few of the supercars during your stay in the birthplace of the company’s founder.

Modena has a glorious medieval centre that is amongst the finest examples of its type in the country – and that is an extremely high accolade in a country rich in medieval heritage. The 12th century cathedral dominates the old town, and together with its annexed campanile has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Such is the quality of the architecture and the building’s interior, it is easy to lose several hours as you wander around and explore.

The Piazza Grande (in which the cathedral is located) is the main meeting place in the city, and has a number of other cultural sights of interest dotted around it. These include the 17th century town hall and the 15th century clock tower, with the city’s main museum – the Palace Museum – being located nearby at St. Augustine Square.
