Previously known as an isolated province in the Abruzzi region, it is now recognized as one of Italy’s most charming undiscovered areas which is ideal to explore from a Molise holiday rental. It is a region of mountains and hills overlooking the Adriatic Sea with a popular beach at Termoli. In the southern part, the region is criss-crossed with waterways. The capital of the Molise region is Campobasso which has many noteworthy historic building and churches.
Enjoying the Molise cuisine is all part of the experience of a Molise holiday rental. Tasty cheese, pastas and rich tomato ragus of lamb and pork are the traditional rustic cuisine and the Porchetta, or roast suckling pig, is a local delicacy well worth sampling during the summer festivals. The area does produce some wines for tasting, but nothing of international repute. Like much of Italy, the area is perfect for hiking, cycling and touring by car. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and wildlife, or head down to the coast for sunbathing and beach activities at nearby Termoli.
Campobasso, the capital of the Moise region is well worth a visit. It is well known for its scissor and knife industry, dating back to the 14th century. The town is also famous for its tasty pears and scamorza cheese. Visit the impressive Castello Monforte and the nearby Chiesa della Madonna del Monte with its precious wooden statue of the Incoronata dating back to 1334. The newer Church of the Holy Trinity just outside the city walls was rebuilt in 1829 after the 1805 earthquake destroyed the earlier building. Isernia is an ancient town in the Molise region, dating back to early civilization. It has a thriving embroidery industry. Although much of the city was destroyed during World War II, it was painstakingly rebuilt, including the Duomo. Termoli is a popular resort with the locals and has some excellent Molise holiday rentals which provide a great base for exploring the area. It has a busy fishing port and the seafood and fish restaurants are among the best in the area.
The Molise area is ideal for holiday rentals in southern Italy with warm sunny weather throughout the year. The summer months are hot and dry, averaging 29°C (84°F) and the mild winters are around 12-15°C (54-59°F) with more rainfall.
The nearest airport to your holiday home in Molise will be the Capodichino (NAP) Airport in Naples. It is approximately 80km from the centre of Campobasso in Molise, Italy. This busy airport has many cheap flights from budget airlines all over Europe.
