Pork, cheese, honey and lentils, as well as a variation on spaghetti pasta, are the region’s specialties, and you can try these along with some Montepulciano wine in some of the town’s restaurants.

Apart from the wine and food, Montepulciano has some interesting attractions too. The car-free city centre is great for strolling around, and from the Clock Tower of the Palazzo Comunale there are some wonderful views over the town and beyond. Piazza Grande is one of the town’s major squares where the medieval Palazzo Comunale and Palazzo de Nobili-Tarugi add to the impressive architecture. The Civic Museum and San Biagio Church are also popular, but wine lovers will be most interested in the numerous opportunities for tasting some of the Montepulciano wine, or taking a tour of the nearby vineyards and wineries.

Montepulciano, and the rest of the Tuscany region, is known for its hot summers, and a climate which is closest to Mediterranean. Winters are mild, though can get colder at elevation in the interior of Tuscany. However, this is still a wonderful destination to visit in the winter too.

Flights to Montepulciano, Italy

As the town does not have its own airport your best choice to get to your Montepulciano holiday accommodation is to fly to Florence, Pisa or Rome. Florence is closest though does not have as much choice when it comes to airlines. Rome is a little closer than Pisa and with its good flight links this might be the best choice.
