Mousehole, West Cornwall - The quintessential Cornish harbour….
If you picture a quintessential Cornish harbour the chances are you are picturing Mousehole; granite fishermen’s cottages nestling among narrow winding streets; fishing boats bobbing in the water surrounded by high protective harbour walls; the cry of seagulls, crystal blue water in the summer and dramatic waves in the winter.
Mousehole has something for everyone; for those that want to explore the village; they can wander the winding streets, sample the local food from several restaurants, tea-shops and the pub; visit the many galleries and shops; paddle in the water off the harbour beach or just sit and watch the world go by. For those that want beaches; there are several glorious sandy beaches nearby; Sennen and Porthcurno to name just two; walkers have the coastal path on their doorstep with many beautiful stretches close by; Mousehole to Lamorna, Cape Cornwall, Lands End and round to Zennor and St Ives. A short drive takes you to the moorland of West Penwith; littered with many sites and monuments from early prehistory; or to the famous Minack theatre at Porthcurno.
Mousehole is a fantastic base to explore the whole of South West Cornwall; The Lands End peninsula is on your doorstep, St Ives and the start of the North Coast is less than 20 minutes away, Falmouth; The Lizard Peninsula and the creeks around the Helford River are all just over half an hour from the village. Alternatively fly or catch the ferry from nearby Penzance and explore the beautiful Scilly Isles.
Do as little or as much as you want to do; but whatever you do we are sure you will have a fantastic holiday!
