Things to do in Muro, Mallorca

The Old Town of Muro has a long and interesting history making it an fascinating place to walk around. Along with the fine mansions built for wealthy local landowners, there is a beautiful 16th century arcaded church, which is one of the finest on the island. It is dedicated to Sant Joan Baptista. There is also a local museum, housed in an old mansion house which is built around a courtyard and garden. The museum has costumes, local pottery, tools and workshops.

The local beach of Playa de Muro is just a mile from your villa in Muro. It is a growing coastal resort with a lovely beach lined with some luxury hotels.

The boats at the marina of Alcudiamar make a beautiful sight as you stroll around this lovely area of Mallorca’s coastline.

Places to visit near Muro, Mallorca

The old town of Pollensa has a charm of its own with its 17th century buildings and medieval churches. Visit the imposing Eglèsia de Nostra Senyora dels Àngels in the square, which was built in the 13th century by the Knights Templars. As well as plenty of shops, Pollensa is an excellent place to enjoy a meal in one of the local restaurants. Try the freshly caught local seafood in a traditional Paella.

Valldemossa is a village on the western coast of Majorca, a 57km (35mile) drive from your villa in Muro. It is famous for its Royal Charterhouse of Jesus of Nazareth, built in the early 1300s when the philosopher Ramon Lull lived in the area. Many poets and composers, including Chopin, have stayed in the local monastery which is set in a beautiful spot.

Can Picafort - This small town has a number of hotels and restaurants serving fresh local fish and Mediterranean cuisine. There is a yacht club and a supermarket, along with a stretch of unspoilt beach which runs to Alcudia. The S’Albufera Nature Reserve is here and is a bird watcher’s paradise.
