Nessebar lies on a rocky peninsula that juts out into the waters of the Black Sea. There are two main town beaches, both around the newer part of town where much of the self catering accommodation in Nessebar is located. The beaches are beautifully long, wide, golden beaches, backed by small cliffs, covered in some surprisingly rare plant species. The gently sloping beaches make Nessebar a wonderful resort for family holidays, as swimming is safe, even for children.

However, Nessebar is best known for the numerous attractions of the old town. Having dominated the peninsula for over 9,000 years, the attractions are breath-taking, even if you have little interest in history. The old town is strewn with beautiful little churches, most of which date from the 11th – 14th centuries, and are open for visiting throughout the year. The churches of Christ Pantokrator and Sveti Loan Krastitel are certainly worth exploration from any Nessebar holiday home. The old town is still wonderfully romantic, with tiny cobbled streets bursting open to reveal charming, shaded squares and great villas, which overhang the streets.

Located on the southern shores of the Black Sea, temperatures are always a few degrees higher than in the resorts of the North. During the summer months, which last from the end of May until the beginning of September, daily peak temperatures can be expected to reach into the mid 30’s (?C) daily, with wonderfully balmy evenings in which to enjoy the excellent nightlife of Nessebar.
