Valle d'Aosta, Italia - Nus and immediate surroundings for pure nature, peace and culture.

The name of the town of Nus, originates from the Roman "ninth mile", the distance from Aosta. This small, pleasant, quiet town lies on the northern slopes, amidst vineyards famous for their red Nus and white Malvoisie DOC wines. The territory climbs from 500m above sea level, from the River Dora until the Becca Luseney at 3500m, winds through rivers, waterfalls, footpaths and along the St. Barthelemy Valley, arriving at the amazing Sanctuary of Cunéy on the high route that circles the complete Valle d'Aosta from Monte Rosa, passing the Matterhorn, Gran Paradiso and finally arriving at the Mont Blanc! Merit of its pure atmosphere, there is the Astronomical Observatory at Lignan, including a new Planetarium. The climate is remarkably dry all year, no fog or mist, plenty of sun! Although the town is small, it contains excellent restaurants, an excellent pastry shop and typical wine bars. Typically rural, a population of farmers, intent on their work, plus wood carving, sold at the St. Orso Fair in Aosta at the end of January. The Pilgrims' Way winds through the town past the two castles from Canterbury to Rome! There are numerous bus services from Nus to nearby Turin, Milan, Chamonix, and Ginevra. The most famous delicious product is the Fontina DOP cheese, produced in the mountain pastures above Nus. At St. Barthelemy there is a magnificent track for Nordic Ski, that winds through 35km.of fantastic Alpine panorama!

Nearby are two large hypermarkets, a railway station, an excellent hospital, swimming pools, thermal baths, golf courses, garden parks for running, cycling or simply soaking up the atmosphere. There's even a short runway for light aircraft, helicopter and air-balloons. On the river, numerous rafting groups for everyone. Being central, all Alpine and Nordic Ski Resorts are close-by, with the roads are cleared of snow and ice all night and day. At Cervinia there is summer skiing on the Glacier.

A positive summary of Nus, is its position near the French and Swiss borders, many Italian cities of Art, Lakes, miles and miles of footpaths amongst the ibex, chamois, deer, marmot, fox...and wolves! Not to forget the many castles, churches, Roman monuments on every "corner", especially in nearby Aosta with the opening of the huge Megalithic site in the near future.
