The Olbia area itself has some interesting sights. Within the town is the Basilica of San Simplicio. This former cathedral dates back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The town is one of the main ports for ferries going back and forth to the Italian mainland. This makes it very easy for holidaymakers to take a trip over to Rome, for example, if you want to spend a day or so away from your accommodation in Olbia. Travel north of the town and you reach Santa Teresa Gallura. This small coastal town is at the northern tip of Sardinia and is linked to the French island of Corsica by ferry; another great idea for a day trip.
