The town of Alghero with its distinctive historic architecture makes it a pleasant place to explore. The piéce-de-resistance of the town is the Alghero Cathedral begun in 1570 which has five magnificent chapels, a bell tower and a grand neo-Classical pillared entrance.

Porto San Paolo is part of the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara and the Punta Coda Cavallo. The old village was built of Sardinian musky stones giving it a quaint appeal. Fantastic sea views can be enjoyed across to the nearby island of Tavolara, which has a wonderful nature park.

The main airport on Sardinia is the Cagliari-Elmas (CAG) Airport in the south of the island, but budget airlines tend to use the smaller airports at Olbia on the northeast coast and Alghero on the northwest coast.
