Oviedo is a small and charming city to the south of Sanford. Homesteaders came to the area and settled on the shores of Lake Jesup after the Civil War in 1865. Citrus and celery were once grown here commercially but the fields have given way to modern developments, shopping centers, recreational parks and conservation areas. In 1879 the city was named by Andrew Aulin, the postmaster, and the Florida city has since established a twinning partnership with its 8th century namesake in Spain.
Enjoy seeing the “real Florida” from an exciting airboat ride. Trips can be taken on Lake Jesup and the airboats can reach up to 45mph. See wading birds, turtles and alligators basking in the warm lake waters. Shopping
There are some excellent air-conditioned malls in nearby Orlando, including the Florida Mall and the Millennium Mall. There is also the Belz Outlet Mall which is a series of plazas with brand name discount stores selling everything from designer bags and shoes to sportswear and clothing. Golf
Oviedo has plenty of golf courses close to your vacation villa. Head out to play 18 holes at Twin Rivers Golf Club or use the driving range and play miniature golf with the family at Tee It Up.
The Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral is an hour’s drive from your Oviedo vacation villa. Exhibitions, IMAX theatres, guided tours and space simulators all tell the story of space exploration from the Cape Canaveral site. There may be a shuttle launch during your stay, so check the Space Centre website calendar and plan your trip accordingly.

Most visitors to Oviedo will want to visit at least one of the major theme park attractions. Choose from Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Universal Studios, SeaWorld and Wet n’Wild, all located within easy driving distance from your villa in Oviedo.
Oviedo has year round sunshine and average daily highs from 21-33°C (70-92°F). Rainfall is heaviest from June to September but it falls as short afternoon showers which quickly pass. August and September can be rather hot and humid.
Orlando International airport is just 18 miles from your self catering villa in Oviedo. Flights to Orlando arrive frequently from many American cities and international destinations all over the world. Daytona Beach International airport is a little further away at 37 from Oviedo.
