Summer at Masthope: Where family memories are made - as you pull into the community, you will be greeted by tall pines & numerous wildlife. You'll drive past the remembrance pond with fountain. When you arrive at our home, the first thing you will notice is how warm & inviting it is. It sits off the road, on a knoll, w/ a wrap around deck where you can sit & watch the deer stroll by or cook up a burger on the gas grill. Summer offers much to do at Masthope: take out a canoe/row/ paddle boat on our private lake, enjoy a swim, lounge on the sand, play volley ball, bocce ball, sit outside & enjoy a snack at the beach grill that overlooks the lake, play beach volleyball,take a ride on community pontoon boat. Walk to the lodge (1/4 mile), take a dip in the pool or go down the huge slides! The kids will enjoy the kiddie pool complete with a fountain! The lodge offers great food at a great price. Try the hot wings! Go to the stables & enjoy a trail ride or an arena ride. The river park is great.

Winter at Masthope: Ahh ... winters are the best! You can sit by the fire and enjoy the warmth (we leave plenty of wood) ... Sit and read a book as you watch the tall, towering snow covered trees sway in the moonlight from the over sized windows in the living room and 2nd floor loft... Go up to the lodge/bar and enjoy a quiet meal or a nightcap as you listen to songs from the jukebox and chat with friends ... Ski: Come enjoy Ski Big Bear a short 10 minute walk up the hill from our chalet! Ski Big Bear offers ski lessons, snow boarding, ski rentals and numerous trails both for the beginner as well as the advanced skier. Or schedule a massage at the fitness center (extra fee).

No Cell Phone Service "Great Vacation"

When my family first arrived my niece realized that there was no cell phone service. It was great. Susan was great to work with. It was a last minute idea to go away a few days because my wife's sister was visiting and Susan took care of everything. My children loved the deer that came around every morning and night. My wife loved the turkeys. I will be back. Thanks Susan.

Owner's Response: There IS cell phone service! BUT at our home for some reason you must be outside for it to work, or at the lodge.
But hey your on vacation! I for one am glad to have limited usage as it forces me to re connect to my family and enjoy my vacation.

Great vacation/great house!

We just got back from a 3night/4days stay at this beautiful home 8/23-8/26.
The home is clean and neat. We spent a lot of time on the beautiful deck.
The kitchen was very well organized with all the items you needed.
There was so much to do, the kids went horesbackriding, I had a massage at the fitness center, my husband went fishing in the lake, we stayed at the pool all day, the kiddie slide is awewsome.
The kids also enjoyed time at the playground and the lodge was awesome!
We will defineitely be back and certainly recommend this home and masthope to anyone who wants a great relaxing vacation.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Stay away from this house

Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else for a relaxing Poconos vacation!

We stayed at the house from August 7th 2009 until August 16th, 2009

Here is a list of what you can expect:

1. Masthope lake is half drained this year, and there is no guarantee that it will refill by next year either. We had to learn from the admin office that they had to do it on the orders from the state. I wish I could post a picture. It looks like a dirty, filthy swamp crawling with insects. Nobody can use it and the pools near it because of the insects.

2. Because of the lake, everybody goes to the one pool away from the lake. There is literally no place around the pool to put a towel, forget about chairs.

3. The owner misinformed us before we signed the lease. I asked a direct question: "Is there anything wrong with the lake?" because I'd heard some lakes in PA had problems this year. The owner's answer was that "everything is fine". The owner later admitted to me in an email that she knew about the work done on the dam. We couldn't use the lake at all.

4. Count your deposit as part of the rent - based on our experience you are not getting it back. The owner will find excuses to keep it. For us it was 'food left in the fridge' and 'wet towels'. Considering there was food there when we arrived and that the dryer doesn't actually work well enough to dry towels, those pretenses were dubious.

5. The pool is NOT within easily walkable distance from the house, especially if you have kids. It's 1/2 mile of steep incline - the pool is at the top of the ski lift. There is no sidewalk and cars constantly pass you by fast on this busy road.

6. We had to pay for the privileges of using the community resources AND you have to pay extra to use the fitness center (you have to drive there too)

7. The neighbors next door had severe fights in the middle of most nights. We had to call the police at 1 am one night because we were afraid they'd kill each other.

8. There is no cell phone reception in the house or outside the house. We had AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon and no one had any bars.
Owner's Response: I am very disappointed that someone would write such lies about our lovely home!
We have owned and rented this home for over 8 yrs without complaint, as you can see by the lovely remarks from other tenants. The lake is useable for boating and fishing. The dam had to be re built and work is to be complete by sept 09. In our lease we ask that if you use our linens and towels that you do wash and dry them. The fitness center is $ 3.00 pp. I guess you just can't please everyone.

Great Family Vacation

My family just returned from a week in Masthope for our summer vacation. First off, the house is perfect for a family. We have three kids, ages 4-8, who had fun exploring the woods, playing ping pong, and feeding the deer. The house is clean, well furnished, roomy, and provides everything you would need. Susan was great to work with and answered all of our questions. We would rent this house again without any reservation. Masthope is a wonderful community for families. We spent hours at the pool and lake, swimming, boating, playing on the playground. The lodge is great for quick meals and sit down dinners. The community is clean, safe and full of things to do. We hope to return to Masthope next year and would recommend this house and this community to anyone.
