Photos and Description of this Freeport holiday house 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps 8, fully equipped including linens.

'Thea', the last house on a point of land, has been our peaceful summer home since 1986. Decks on both sides afford both an east and west view of the water. The rocky shoreline has a few sandy places for sunbathing and swimming depending on the changing of the tide. We enjoy blue herons, osprey, gulls, and we've even seen eagles! The interior has a comfortable, open floor plan downstairs with full bath and laundry. There are four bright, cozy bedrooms and a full bath upstairs. Two of the bedrooms open directly onto the balcony which makes it possible to lie abed and view the water beyond. In addition to the usual amenities, we leave the kitchen stocked with spices, condiments, baking ingredients, and canned goods with the understanding that whomever uses the last of anything replaces it for incoming guests. There is wireless internet and basic cable for 2 TV's. Our best recommendation is that folks keep coming back. Check out our guest reviews.

Close to Portland, Freeport shopping (home of LLBean), Bowdoin College, museums in Bath and Brunswick, and many state parks and beaches. Our home is surrounded by water and at the high tides with the new moon and the full moon briefly becomes an island. Under most circumstances this does not impact your visit. Once in a while, though, you have to use our tide charts to plan when you will leave or return.

'Thea' has been our summer home since 1986. We are the last house on a point of land. Decks on both sides afford both an east and west view of the water. The rocky shoreline has a few sandy places for sunbathing and swimming depending on the changing of the tide. We enjoy ospreys, gulls, and we've even seen eagles feeding on the flats at low tide.

Home Away from Home

Suze and Brandy South Deerfield, Massachusetts
Review Submitted: September 27, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Thea is different from all other rentals we have known. When you are there it feels like you are the luckiest people in the world to know the folks who own this place and call it their home. It feels like your home, too, as everything you could want to relax in comfort is there. At the same time, it takes you far away from your usual world, as Thea is perched on a tiny island at the edge of the sea! How fabulous to see ithe ocean all around you, all the time, out of every window, and to hear it lull you to sleep at night. We have been especially appreciative of the detailed guidebooks the owner's provde to answer every question you may have about the house and the many attractions in the vicinity. Every time we go back, the owners have added amenities and renovations - this time, WiFi and cable access for computers, new gas heating system, and an additional patio on the front so you can enjoy contemplating the sea from yet another direction! We've had great dinners with friends around the big table and quiet days of solitude, tourist days up and down the coast and quiet nights by the fireplace; canoeing around the islands and walking around the point. The creativity Flying Point Island inspires has been awesome: we write, we play instruments, we take photographs; we laugh, we sing, we dance. Bliss.

A retreat away from home

Of Plant and Bird Maritimes, Canada
Review Submitted: April 18, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
I have been most fortunate to annually spend 4 or 5 days at Thea for the past ten years. For me it is a place of retreat from the busy world of my home life. There is a phone … but I don’t use it, (and I don’t pass out the number), there is a TV, but I never turn it on, there is shopping at factory outlet stores (LL Bean) near by, but I rarely do this as I can shop at home. Thea offers a different taste of geography, from its majestic Pines, expansive tidal flats and rugged rocky shores. Thea is an island of privacy, where you can be alone with your thoughts and your friends. It is the end of the road where a furnished home provides more than the necessities of warmth and protection from the weather. A deck only a few meters away from the edge of the sea, paths and small roads provide delightful opportunities to watch Cardinals and Tuffed Titmice flit through the trees or flotillas of Eiders and Ring-neck Ducks corking about on the water, or seals poking their noses above the surface. There is something delightfully delicious about seeming to be so isolated in a wilderness and yet having so many luxuries and comforts at hand should we choose to take advantage of them. I treasure my time on the coast of Maine for the time spent with good friends enhanced by the sparkling gem of Thea.

Owner's Response: "Thea" is the name of our home... a combination of the first names of one of our sets of parents as a tribute to them. This review is by someone who clearly likes the seclusion and nature that surround our home. What is so nice is that we are really not that far from shopping and entertainment of all kinds.

Small groups of women and men have enjoyed our home as a retreat for years and we are very pleased to make it available to them

a taste of Avalon

visual artist Elgin, New Brunswick, Canada
Review Submitted: April 16, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
Sheltered by coastal islands, but still featuring strong tidal influence, Thea offers sublime days, safe exploration by canoe, and a sense of intimacy with nature . The peninsula location gives a feeling of solitude while being virtually minutes from Freeport. It has become a cherished annual holiday retreat.

Owner's Response: This is a very accurate description of our home and the beauty and quiet it affords our guests. A number of groups have used our home as an annual retreat... a pleasant and inspiring retreat that affords great comfort and peace.

The Perfect Retreat

Brer Cottonmouth Antrim, NH
Review Submitted: March 31, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
Thea is a wonderful house--snug, beautiful, well maintained, and comfortable. I always feel like I'm a welcome guest in a very generous friend's house, with cozy furniture and beds, fluffy towels, and always a well-stocked kitchen--every pot, pan, and utensil you can think of. Usually, even that that special condiment that you forgot to bring is right on the shelf waiting for you.
There are gorgeous views of Casco Bay out the front and back doors, and you can spend hours wandering along Flying Point and enjoying the shoreline and ocean. You are also handy to the other intriguing places along Casco Bay--Portland, Bath, Brunswick, Popham Beach, Wolfneck State Park ... far too many fascinating places to explore in one trip.

Quaint Escape!

Suzanne K New Hampshire
Review Submitted: October 28, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
What a GREAT place! We had an amazing time staying at Thea. Eight of us fit comfortably and enjoyed the views of the ocean while staying toasty warm by the wood burning stove and enjoying the beauty of the rocky coast of Maine in the best house tucked away on a penisula/island at times! Definitely a great get-a-way!
