La Saga is a picturesque, fully restored Quercy farmhouse, located in the tiny hamlet of Bede. This stone built villa enjoys a wonderful private situation, set in five acres with its own large pool, ensuring peace and tranquillity. Renovated with care to retain its its traditional style and character, it has a charming beamed sitting room with a huge open fireplace . It is very pretty and tastefully furnished, with exposed beams and stonewalls everywhere. Complete with a traditional converted 'Pigeonnier' a picturesque tower that was once the home of the farmers precious flock of pigeons! There are lovely terraces to enjoy views over the pool. La Saga is a comfortable and atmospheric retreat from reality! The recently completed A20 makes the journey a breeze, leaving only 14 miles of non-motorway driving from the house to London.

La Saga is situated close to the tiny village of Montgesty in the beautiful Lot Valley. It is about 15miles from the City of Cahors. Toulouse International Airport is about 1 1/4 hours away on the Auto route. The surrounding countryside is peaceful and unspoilt, a little known landscape of rolling hills with small hill top villages, built in the white stone of Quercy. An idyllic spot for a peaceful holiday!

Notes: The house is very pretty and tastefully furnished. There are exposed beams and stonewalls. The sitting room has a huge fireplace with a wood burning stove. There is a children's play area off the sitting room complete with toys,and books. The kitchen is huge and well equipped it has all mod cons whilst retaining its ancient farmhouse character. It also has a large wood burning stove. Outside there are two terraces, one in a secluded shady spot. The other overlooks the magnificent 12 x 6 m swimming pool. The views from the house of the surrounding countryside are lovely and totally peaceful. The house is in a very private position and stands in its own 5 acres of lawns, fields and woodland. It is not overlooked by any other property. It nestles in a hamlet situated in a shallow valley near to a village. The house has been recently refurbished, including a new roof - some of which has been done with stone tiles, (lauzes). It has ben rewired, recarpeted and central heating installed.

Things to do: In nearby Catus there is the Lac Vert with great facilities for children. The lake has a beached area, playground, canoe and pedaloe rental. There are tennis courts at the lake, also at Montgesty and Thedirac. There is a delightful nine hole golf course approximately 20 miles distance. The river Lot is close by. There are many interesting river boat excursions and water sports, (swimming, canoeing, dinghy sailing etc. to be enjoyed on the river. The local horse riding through peaceful countryside is particularly good. There is hang gliding at nearby Craysac. There are numerous charming towns and villages to visit. Cahors is a fascinating town to spend a day and Toulouse offers the sophistication of french city life.

Eating out: Their are a number of good value restaurants close by. The Gindreau at St Denis Catus has a Michelin Star and is only about ten minutes down the road. (It is one of the top 100 of all French restaurants in the Gault Millau guide for 2007) It is fantastic value the Recreation at Les Arques has wonderful food at great prices and has recently been the subject of a book. There are great 'typical' places to eat in nearby villages. Cahors has many good restaurants serving local specialities.

Other Activities: The River Lot offers boat excursions, canoeing and water sports. Markets, Brocants and good restaurants are found within easy reach of the house.

We really enjoyed our 2 week stay at La Saga which is ideal for families who are looking for a very relaxing holiday in a very peaceful location. As you would expect from a country location we became well aquainted with the local wildlife which included, spiders, wasps, lizards, frogs, beautiful butterflies,birds, squirrels and deer all of which added to the fascination of the house and gardens. The house has been restored with care and the gardens with the pool area are delightful. The boys enjoyed playing table tennis and badminton as well as spending hours in the pool. We arrived late in the evening so we were grateful for the meal which had been left for us on our arrival along with some food which kept us going until we could get to the shops. The Lake area at Catus (5km)was good for swimming and the canoes and pedalos were good value,the cafe at the lake was also good for snacks. There was plenty to visit in the area which has remained unspoilt by tourism.
