Photos and Description of this Manche holiday farmhouse 6 large bedrooms, 3 full baths - Accommodations are for 12 persons or more.

'La Porte Rouge' is a large restored early 18th Century farmhouse (which belonged until this century to the Comtesse d' Auvers), situated at the end of a quiet country road and surrounded by landscaped grounds, gardens and fields. The main house is a fully furnished two story structure with a large living room, a large L-shaped kitchen-living room. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed and one baby bed; the five other bedrooms have twin beds. The three complete bathrooms are spacious. The house is tastefully furnished with antique rugs and old Norman furniture. Ideal for family reunions or several couples/children and elderly people. All amenities are present for a comfortable stay. Traditional French meals can be prepared by a cook of the village, at an additional cost, to enable you to spend all your days touring the countryside and come back to a warm meal in the evening!

La Porte Rouge is a wonderful property which my family has rented twice. The rooms are huge and well-appointed, not filled with cheap "rental property" furniture. The large, open kitchen/dining area is a joy in which to entertain and the kitchen is well outfitted. The bedrooms are large, and quite a few are ensuite.
The property is also conveniently located just off a main highway, providing easy access to the myriad attractions of the region. I've not rented the property recently because I like the region so much that I have purchased my own house! A renter would be hard-pressed to find such a well-appointed rental property. Also, as beautiful as the pictures are, the property is even prettier in true life.

Great old house full of character.

We rented this charming house over Christmas 2008 and could not have asked for more. Even though it was freezing outside this big house stays warm as each room has its own heater, and the wonderful fireplace in the living room kicks out fantastic heat. The dining and kitchen area are open plan and huge and we cooked and ate wonderfully each day. (Although I can highly recommend the food cooked by the lady in the village who looks after the house for the owner, as we pre-ordered from a huge list of meals for our first night and it was waiting for us when we arrived, and was fantastic!) The furniture in the house is full of character - lots of single, old antiquey pieces that bring a real charm to the house. The bedrooms are well appointed and beds comfy. The owner was very helpful when we emailed her before we decided to book the house, and she made the whole process of booking very easy.The surrounding area was full of history and easy to get to as the house is only 10 mins drive from the nearest town/highway. We even enjoyed delicious, fresh cow's milk from the local farmer ( a short walk away) - about 5 pints for 1 euro!

I would highly recommend this house if you want a lovely, traditional french house to stay in, well-maintained, well equipped, full of character and well situated for exploring the surrounding Normandy area.
