'La casa de La Parra' or Vine Cottage is perfectly located at the edge of the stunning hilltop village of Comares, the highest in the Axarquia region. Rustic and comfortable, the partially vine covered roof terrace provides incredible views over the countryside to the mountains beyond; perfect for alfresco dining or just relaxing on a lounger in the sunshine. The old wooden door opens to reveal beamed ceilings, old tiled floors and shuttered windows. Outside, the narrow streets of Comares twist and turn; most too narrow for cars. Cozy bars, simple restaurants, shops and a bank offer traditional village facilities, all within walking distance of the cottage; an unchanged and relaxing environment. The beach resort of Torre del Mar is approximately a 35 minute drive down the hillside passing through groves of citrus fruit and avocado.

Local Life and things to do.

Explore Comares; there are lots of photo opportunities. There is a large open air public swimming pool (open July and August )...And there is plenty to do in the surrounding countryside. Get some exercise by walking some of the many walking routes near the village. Horse riding is available a short drive from Comares or on the beach near Torre del Mar. Bird watching and mountain biking are popular too. Then relax with a tapa and vino and enjoy the views.

Local facilities.

Comares has 2 small shops selling a good selection of local fresh produce and drinks for your stay. There is also a chemist, tobacconist and a bank with a cash machine. A number of small bars and simple restaurants serve local food and wine. Velez Malaga, around 30 minutes drive and the nearest large town, offers all facilities including large supermarkets, a modern shopping centre, multi complex cinema, hospital, street market, many shops of all kinds and a water park. Torre del Mar - approx 35 minutes drive, has a wide sandy beach and many beach bars, restaurants, nightlife and entertainment. Caleta de Velez marina, Bavaria 18 hole public golf course and go-karting are all nearby.

Sightseeing in Andalucia.

Comares is a good inland base to explore the major attractions of Andalucia. The Alhambra Palace & Granada are just a 90 minute drive - with skiing in the Sierra Nevada a short drive from Granada. Seville and Cordoba are a little further but worth the effort! Nerja Caves on the coast will take an hour in the car. And Malaga city, including the Picasso museum and an old centre full of culture, is a one hour drive through the Montes de Malaga National Park; or a bus ride from Comares.
