This charming cottage sits right over the Damariscotta River, affording serene seclusion right on the water. At high tide the water literally laps the shore under the house. The upstairs is one bedroom with a double bed and closet. The living room couch can be converted to a double bed. Ground floor includes living kitchen and bathroom, opening up onto spacious deck and float. The deck and house look out on several miles of river views with small islands - perfect for rowing (rowboat available upon request) or bring your kayaks. Also within the view is a remnant of old Maine - a real working waterfront, with several fishermen, a couple of yachts, and an aquaculture firm growing oysters. Lobsters and other seafood are available right on the wharf. The cottage is set down below a field that is two hundred yards from a country road, about 7 miles south of the market town of Damariscotta.

Although most find that they simply want to stay put to enjoy the quiet of the place, there are wonderful shoreside and woods walks from the cottage. Within a 15-minute drive are Pemaquid Beach, the historic Fort William Henry archaeological site, picturesque Pemaquid Light, and the fishing village of South Bristol and a summer colony in Christmas Cove. There is a golf course within a couple of minutes drive, and the country roads are perfect for walking and biking. Shopping and fine restaurants are available in Damariscotta or Boothbay Harbor. Day sails on various boats set out from any of these villages. Water activities such as kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sailing, swimming, and skipping stones dominate the summer months here, as do reading, and lazing about watching the light change from the crisp summer dawns through the fishermen's comings and goings, to the long twilit evenings.

This cottage has served as a family retreat for many years, giving a feeling of going back in time to a simpler, more natural era. The cottage is rustic, affording comfortable but simple accommodation, including one double bed, one single bed, and a double size pull out couch. The small bathroom has a shower, toilet, and sink. The kitchen has a small refrigerator, 2 electric burners, a toaster oven, a microwave and equipped with all necessary cooking and eating utensils. No smoking inside. On weekday mornings, the fishermen may start their engines early, but it is a brief and a minor disturbance. There is no smell or spillover other than morning startup noise from the working waterfront to the cottage.

Wavenock Golf Course is two miles from cottage.

A great Maine get-a-way!

I can't say enough about our week at the Honeymoon Cottage! The interior of the cottage is dead basic, but was clean and did the trick for us.
We spent our days sunning ourselves on the deck, using the rowboat, getting lobster and local oysters at the shack right outside the door, communing with the seals, walking the dog at the land conservancy down the road and visiting Damariscotta (don't miss the Walpole Barn!) to eat and shop; generally forgetting about the world.
As much as we would like to keep the cottage all to ourselves, don't hesitate to book it for a real Maine experience!
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway

Looking For A Quiet Vacation Spot?

This truely is a "Honeymoon cottage" it is rustic and away from it all. Awake in the morning to the sound of lobstermen on their way out to check their traps and buy lobster straight off their boat! Go whale watching or ride the train into Rockland. Visit historic Pemaquid Lighthouse. There is plenty to do!

Oh, bring a flashlight to keep in your car because it gets really dark at night and if you come back late, finding your way down the stairs to the cottage can be a bit tricky!
