Cove Cottage, Mt. Desert, Me.

We were extremely pleased with our stay at Cove Cottage. We found the cottage and nearby guest cottage were very clean and in good working order. It is clearly a place which is stocked with virtually all your needs if you plan to prepare meals- all dinnerware and utensils, cooking supplies such as salt, pepper, olive oil etc. As the name suggests, the cottage sits on a cove which affords you a continually changing view a neat corner of Somes Sound. With the dramatic tide changes, swimming near the dock is restricted to a 2-3 hour period around high tide. The rest of the time, swimming is not possible or not that appealing because of the often less than pristine looking water conditions provoked by the tidal movements. While those periods may not be suitable for swimming, they are the best times to read a book or take a nap on the rocks or chairs nestled in the woods along the shore. The location is perhaps as central as one could get to reach all corners of MDI.
The only drawback is that the house is quite close to the busy highway so you have a continuous cacophony of cars and trucks despite being shielded by a wooden fence. However, these sound are easy to drift into the background as you look out over the cove or relax in the very cozy cottage. Plus, they are no issue at all when sleeping. For our extended family of 8 with one small child it clearly reached and exceeded our objective.
