Eastport is Maine's most eastern city and the location of a thriving arts community. Located five miles from Sipayik, Passamaquoddy Indian Reservation and directly across the Bay from Roosevelt's home on Campobello Island, New Brunswick, you will experience diverse historic and cultural communities. Possible day excursions include hiking some of the many coastal Cobscook trails, kayaking on Cobscook Bay, sailing or fishing with captains out of Eastport (frequent whale sightings), visiting Machias Seal Island to see the Puffins, playing golf at St. Andrews or Herring Cove, ferry ride to Deer Island, visit to Quoddy Head Lighthouse or trips up-country to the lakes. Spectacular wildlife and scenery can be observed from all locations. Many galleries, shops, museums and libraries offer unique displays. Throughout the summer, plays, concerts and festivals fill the calendar at various locations.

Further details for this holiday rental in Eastport, USA

walkers 'paradise: From this home in Eastport, you can walk to downtown, along the waterfront or take more challenging hikes along the coast or in the hillsides. In a short time you will recognize this small city's other walkers and may pick up a conversation or two along the way.

The view is always changing: The spectacular view from this home and its two decks is always changing. Cloud formations, swirling waters and wild life including deer, fox and many bird species cross your vision as you sit quietly and gaze upon the scenery.

Always something to do: Sure it is vacation and you can sit and read or listen to music, but Eastport is a happening place for such a small population. If you want you can be busy every day and night with all the activities that the residents, year round and summer, have dreamed up for entertainment. But then again, you may just want to stay put and pick up on that long forgotten hobby, be it sketching, model building or cooking.

Other Activities: bird watching and painting

Fantastic location!

Review Submitted: September 8, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
This Eastport home delivers an unparalleled home base for explorations in the Eastport to Calais area and beyond. It is a naturalist's paradise with views of Deer and Campobello Islands from the living area windows. A telescope is set up there which is an added bonus. There are also two decks - one lower and one upper - which add to the experience of looking directly out onto the water less than 1/2 mile away.

All that is needed is generously supplied by the owners: linens, towels, paper products, soaps, etc. There is also lots of area literature.

The house is very comfortable in a Maine cottage style. Most of the contents date to the 1970's, when the house was built.
A microwave and toaster over have been added recently. It's a very comfortable, relaxed place, but not luxurious, which was perfect for me. The open concept worked really well, and the view from the bank of windows was better than any post card - really spectacular. I loved all of the artwork there as well.

Lots of hot water, a good dishwasher and washer/dryer combo were all great. I found coffee and a grinder, tea and lots of unexpected extras in the kitchen, which was very nice, indeed.
The owners take a great amount of care in making you feel comfortable.

In season you can pick raspberries right in the backyard! It was a real pleasure and was much appreciated.

I would advise those who go to this area to bring a prepaid phone card as there is little to no cell phone reception. You really are away from it all!

Eastport is a fantastic place full of natural wonders like the Old Sow (whirlpool in view of the house) and the Reversing Falls nearby. It is also a vibrant arts community with lots of wonderful galleries and a new museum. Traveling to New Brunswick by car or ferry is a snap.

I loved this house and would return in a heartbeat. It's very evident that a lot of time and love went into constructing it. And it is hard to leave after a week. The light in that part of the Maine coast is out of this world. Thanks to the owners for the perfect accommodations - it was one of my favorite vacations
