Only home on pristine Great Duck Island; 260 acre wilderness island, near Acadia National Park. Two-story Victorian Gothic style cottage with 270 degree sweeping panoramic view of open ocean, mountains of Acadia, sunrise & sunset. So close to the ocean that you can see waves crashing and watch the sunrise, sunset and moonrise over the water while lying in bed. The house: 1450 sq. ft., open interior plan, steep roofs, 8 gables, expansive windows and 2 small second story decks. First floor: living area, woodstove with fire-view, dining alcove and double bed alcove. Two twin beds available. Second floor: well equipped and supplied kitchen area, propane refrigerator and stove, living/dining area with double bed futon couch, wood stove, French doors to deck and master bed alcove with cathedral ceiling, gothic-arched window and queen bed. Bathroom with tub and hand pumped shower and composting toilet. Outside: deluxe outhouse with glass door and spectacular view of ocean and mountains.

Spectacular oceanfront retreat and adventure. Located on the northeast point of Great Duck Island, 10 miles due south of Northeast Harbor, Mt. Desert. Perfect place for those seeking solitude and an intimate experience of nature. Naturalists, hikers, meditators, writers, photographers, painters and those wanting to live deliberately without the distractions of modern life will love this place. Explore and enjoy granite cliffs, tidal pools, rugosa rose hedges, wildflower gardens, seaside meadows and spruce forests. Watch eagles and seagulls fly. See baby gulls break open their eggs. Hares scurry here & there. Hammock, outdoor furniture and many benches to contemplate the changing ocean & weather. Complete privacy on our 5 acres. Property abuts 250 acre pristine wild-life preserve, with popple-stone beaches and steep cliffs. Preserve protects bald eagles, petrels, guillemots & eider ducks. Renters (but not public) have access to paths across the whole island.
