Photos and Description of this Villemagne-l'Argentiere holiday 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, sleeps 6-8

Delve a little farther into France! Beyond the landmarks and museums you will find the best of France. Go one step farther, into the more rustic villages, the authentic regional restaurants, the less-travelled paths. This completely remodeled maison de village includes a new kitchen, with modern appliances, new furniture throughout, a roof terrace with sliding ceiling windows (making it a year-round sunroom), and a facade with vestiges of 11th century architecture. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths plus 1/2 bath in roof terrace. There are five double beds total, including pull-out couches in the living room and roof terrace. Two bread trucks (9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.) bring fresh croissants and baguettes to the little square in front of the house every day.

Further details for this holiday rental in Villemagne-l'Argentiere, France

This property is wonderful for hiking, biking, and exploring ancient villages and ruins. The local food is terrific, as well as very reasonably priced. Vineyards abound! Faugeres AOC is !0 kilometers and St. Chinian AOC is 30 kilometers away. The owner is very willing to talk with you and help plan your trip. I have owned the house for 8 years. I am very familiar with the area, and can help you get the most out of your visit.

Other Activities: canoeing and kayaking, wine tasting, great restaurants

We just returned after 2 wonderful weeks here and agree with everything said by the previous guests. The town is charming – our first day, they were having a harvest festival with a band playing traditional music and, by the end of the evening, we were dancing with the rest of the town. The village market days (Sundays) were very interesting with lots of local produce (breads, cheeses, fruits, wines) and a used book vendor. We spend much of our time walking the local trails, following a portion of the GR 7 and some of the PR trails (we left the trail guides for future visitors). The house was also very convenient for day trips – to the beach, Beziers, Carcasonne, St Guilleme le Desert, etc. The drives were not bad at all and, as another reviewer said, it’s well worth taking the back roads to enjoy the scenery. We were even able to catch one of the Tour de France stages in a town about 15 minutes from the house. The house was perfect for our 10-year-old daughter too; she especially liked swimming in the river which runs right by the town. In summary, we had a fantastic stay and highly recommend the house to anyone wishing to visit the Langedoc region.

Just spent the 3rd week of June 2008 here and totally enjoyed the stay. You'll see from the earlier reviews what this has to offer - genuine village living with all the eminities. Great location for local sight-seeing (Lamlou, Olargues, Bedarieux, grottos, etc) and also well positioned for longer trips to Avignon, Nimes, the Pont du Gard, Arles, and Carcassonne (don't be afraid to get a good map and take the smaller "scenic" routes to Carcassonne and those above St Julien - the scenery is priceless - and pack a picninc lunch!). No shortage of restaurants, markets etc (even pizza) within 10 minutes drive - easy to do some wonderful "home cooking" as the house has everything - from a dishwasher to a clothes dryer!
Will not hesitate returning soon - there's so much to see in the area.

Thanks Tom, Rick & Linda L.

A comfortable home with every amenity.
We spent two wonderful weeks there.
The bread truck arrived each morning and after stocking up on baquettes and cheese we would set off on a hike through the vineyards to the neighboring towns. Very friendly people. Lamalou was our favorite town...too many good restaurants! We were fortunate enough to attend a concert at the magnificent St. Majon.
Can't wait to go back!!!

I stayed at Tom's house for a week in
the Spring of 2004. Enjoyed very
much being in a private home rather
than hotel, and in a quiet small place
with natural countryside all around -
plenty of walks and things to look at.
Also, the location is great for
excursions. We travelled by car to
some site of interest every day, and
still had time to enjoy the local
ambiance. Shopping and eating
locally was a pleasure, especially the
restaurants! But we also enjoyed
cooking at 'home'.
The house and furnishings were
quite comfortable - a pleasure to find
and come back to to rest,
contemplate, and prapare for the next
outing.
Best wishes to you and yours for a
nice stay!

I have had the pleasure of staying in this house on two separate occasions and am looking forward to a third. Villemagne is a wonderful little haven. Being listed as a historic village has saved it from the less tasteful marks of modern progress, and the pretty stone houses and narrow winding ways have retained their old beauty and charm. The hills surrounding the village offer fantastic, tranquil walks through a beautiful sun-soaked terrain quilted with small vineyards and orchards (the best cherries I have ever tasted), and the flanking river is perfect for a swim during the hot summer months. The food is delicious and cheap, whether you decide to shop in the markets and eat at home, or to eat in the many good restaurants in the area. The same goes for the wine. It's a perfect place for a quiet peaceful retreat, and also a perfect base from which to explore the many other places worth seeing in this part of the world: Montpellier and the southern French coast are a short drive away, Paris and Barcelona are little more than four hours away by train...the list goes on...I can't wait to go back!
