Situated in a peaceful, private, and natural setting a half-mile from colorful and historical Oak Bluffs, ocean beaches and quaint Vineyard Haven shops. A quaint and wonderful cottage experience, this cottage is clean and cozy with luxury bedding makes sleep time a pleasure. Celebrate colorful MV sunsets from the deck of this private waterfront classic cottage with a new decor that has a fresh, comfortable feel located in the peaceful and private area of exclusive East Chop. Relax in the Adirondack chairs or on the chaise lounges on the large deck or lie on the hammock under the trees on this private acre of waterfront grounds overlooking Crystal Lake with swans, pussy willows, families of duck , and other water birds. Listen to the ferries in the harbor. The lake is a few steps from the house. This is the consummate Vineyard setting. The home has been featured in 08 Coastal Living, and 07 Better Homes and Gardens.

  • Week is considered Sunday to Sunday.
    A deposit of one half is due upon booking, and one half due June 1.
    A partially refundable security deposit is $500. We will deduct cleaning $200 and trash removal $50 from security deposit.
  • Ferry tickets are available through the Steamship Authority. We do not purchase ferry tickets for our guests.
    We are offering discounts for AAA and AARP members who want to stay during Spring and Fall. Please notify us and we will give you
    the discounted rates.

Awesome Spot!: You'll love the look of the cottage with vintage furniture and fabrics from one of the top island stores. Minimum 3 bedrooms ( 1 which has a queen), the other are singles, each complete with comfy cotton towels, and luxury bedding including high thread count sheets, and down comforters. (air conditioning in the MBR) and cable TV, 1 full bath and outdoor shower, a small, efficient kitchen, well equipped. A high speed internet connection allows you to access your e-mail and provide you a fast web connection. Large great room (living/dining room combined) overlooks the water with a wood stove, and window seat bay windows overlooking the pond. An upper loft provides an escape for teens and kids with two twins or a king when combined.

Article about Mermaid: Check out the article featured in June 2007 issue of Better Homes and Garden's. The boathouse is featured in the home decorating section of the magazine. The cottage was also featured in April 2008 Coastal Living Magazine, and London Times Travel Section.

I've been renting a week at the Mermaid for the last 5 years. It's become like a second home to me and my husband. The owners, Jill and Scott, are wonderful. The cottage is completely charming and the view and location are perfect. It's within walking distance to OB, yet completely private and tranquil.

The Mermaid was everything we had hoped for. The view was amazing and the cottage was a dream...so wonderfully located.
We look forward to our next Vineyard visit and can't wait for that beautiful East Chop drive.

We had a wonderful stay at the "Mermaid
Boathouse" in June. It is in a perfect location- close
to Vinyard Haven, walking distance to Oak Bluffs, in
a quiet beautiful residential area. We loved our
daily walks along the Ocean and in the
neighborhood. The view from the house is
spectacular- across a pond to the Ocean and Sound
beyond. You can sit on the deck and watch the
ferries and other boats go in and out of Vinyard
Haven Harbor. The house is great- nicely furnished
with a large open living area and great bedrooms
with very comfortable beds. There is a fully
equipped kitchen that is small but extremely
functional. We had a great time cooking meals in
the kitchen and on the grill outside. Why go to a
restaurant when you have such an wonderful spot
to eat at your own house? We had many incredible
meals watching the sun set over the Sound. I hope
we can return to the "Mermaid Boathouse" this year!

We fell in love with Martha's Vineyard and the "Mermaid Cottage". It was so perfect. The cottage has a great location. We could take walks along the sea wall or walk into town.
The cottage was perfect for our family of 5. We had such a great time. The cottage is decorated so cute and has a great back porch to sit and read or just relax. We will be going back and hopefully and staying at Mermaid cottage.
The owner Jill was on of the nicest people I have ever dealt with. She was always helpful and gave us tons of useful information. You can't go wrong if you are lucky enough to stay at Mermaid Cottage
