Cabot Shores is a 55 acre private sanctuary, with all modern conveniences, breathtaking views, and a 2000 ft private beachfront. Nestled in this peaceful setting that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, you will discover a magnificent lodge, 4 chalets, and a selection of alternative shelters (yurts, tepee, and wigwams). Whiff's Lodge has 7 bedrooms each with air conditioning, 4-piece private baths, and queen or double beds. Our cafe-restaurant offers fine dining and breathtaking views of the Bird Islands and their famous puffins. One of our suites is Barrier-Free. They all have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, and utensils), ceiling fan, electric heat, and a TV and VCR. Relax and take in the spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean from the upstairs living room or while sitting on your covered deck. Our alternative shelters are a unique opportunity to experience a different style of lodging in a beautiful wild setting. According to the culture of your choice you can spend a comfortable night in a yurt, a wigwam all big enough to host up to 6 people. We also provide a variety of guest facilities including outdoor barbecues, shower facilities and coin laundry. There is a restaurant serving full breakfast and dinner, with lunches packed by as well.

Golf: Cabot Shores is midway between two of the best rated golf courses in Canada, Highland Links in Ingonish and Bell Bay in Baddeck (see Golf digest) Typically guests stay in chalet, golf and come back for a barbecue or special concerts. Non-golfers are also happy at our adventure and retreat destination.

Cabot Shores

My 8 year old daughter and I visited Cabot Shores on a 10 day trip to Nova Scotia during the summer. We had stayed in several places by the time we got to Cabot Shores. A single adult traveling with a single child has special challenges - in particular, meeting the social needs of both of us. We found Cabot Shores to be a place that really worked for us. We hung out in the community room and talked with other travelers and hosts, Paul and Barbara Weinberg. One guest taught her to play chess, while I played Scrabble with his partner. We explored the area, especially focusing on wildlife - and were thrilled when we came upon a group of moose browsing by the side of the road along the Cabot Trail. We stayed in the lodge, which was easiest for us because one of us could go to the community room, even if the other wanted to sleep a little longer. I highly recommend this lodge for other parents and children. Great place, great people!

Cabot Shores on Cape Breton Island

I have visited Cape Breton twice - once last year ('07) and again this summer, and stayed at Cabot Shores both times. My stays were both short, not month or summer-long rentals, but I can say that they were both wonderful. The chalets are spacious and extremely comfortable and the setting is, in a word, beautiful- within walking distance of the water. Besides the place itself, Paul and Barbara, the rental's owners, are warm, hands-on hosts.
On both trips, I ended up spending a lot of time in the lodge, a sort of community gathering/eating place and met perhaps the most diverse group of people I'd ever encountered in my life - a worldwide traveller from Ireland who was next off to Argentina, a completely kosher New York City couple who'd just married mid-life and were on their honeymooon, a group from Denmark who had come for a week of fly fishing, as well as an Indian guide named John, who is employed there, instructed me in how to make a tee-pee, and whom I now consider a friend.
This is easily one of my favorite vacations and I will be going back again.
