DIFFICULT OWNERS

The house was ok but we found dealing with the owner very difficult. It took almost 2 months and repeated phone calls to get our money back. The contract stated that the deposit would be returned in 2 weeks. The owner said that leaking faucet was our fault and kept part of the deposit. We will never rent from these owners again!
Owner's Response: We have been renting our home for over 4 years and have never had difficulties with a renter. We have customers that have been repeatedly renting from us year-after-year. Our home has been furnished with wonderful antiques and quilt bedding to give our renters a warm, cozy feeling of "home away from home". We take great pride in sharing our home and appreciate that all of our renters over the years have taken great care with our things while visiting our home. The house is immaculate because of this. We recognize that in renting our home we will absorb the cost of normal wear and tear over the years, and we are constantly maintaining our property to insure it is always in A+ condition. We believe the pictures on the website indicate this. In this particular incident, the kitchen faucet was broken off the sink base resulting in water damage in the kitchen cabinet. Our cleaning service reported the damage to us the day after the rental family had checked out. We had to make a special trip to the house to repair the faucet (3 hours round trip) and clean up the water damage. As well, there were dark green stains left on the family room carpet and coffee table that had to be scrubbed repeatedly to remove. There are still remnants of the stain on the coffee table. Our policy has always been to return the security deposit within two weeks of vacating our home. In this case, there were damages requiring repairs and the deposit was returned once the repairs were completed - 4 weeks from the time of vacancy.
