Oh, deer!

A nice getaway in the low country of South Carolina. Wildlife friendly Fripp Island is not far from Beaufort and Port Royal, two small towns with an enviable abundance of well-kept period homes and interesting restaurants, with some amusing shops and art dealers thrown in for good measure (the Rhett art gallery in Beaufort and McPhearson's Serious Barbeque in Port Royal were very nice indeed!) This house and the community on Fripp was everything as advertised and I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for an absence of the smaller amenities such as dish towels and extra trash bags: toilet paper and facial tissues were also at premium. We had a small problem with the air conditioning, and needed to replace the aging coffee maker. The owner felt so bad she offered an additional week for free at our convenience in the off-season. Overall, a pleasant stay. One cautionary note, however. If you plan on playing golf on what looked like two very nice courses on the island, one of them a Davis Love signature course, you will need an amenities card to do so. You can purchase one before you come down I'm now led to understand (had we only known!). We had to play off-island, which was a bit of a drive, and the courses we visited were only so-so. A slightly irritating inconvenience, but oh, well. Our thanks to Debbie the owner and Dee at her rental agency!
