The village of Limeuil is officially listed as 'Un des Plus Beaux Villages de France' - one of the most beautiful villages of France - a stone-built medieval fortified village clinging to the hillside which rises up from the spectacular confluence of the rivers Dordogne and Vézère. Still known as the 'Port', this great expanse of water presents one of the loveliest settings in the whole of the incredible Dordogne valley region. The village has three excellent restaurants - two of which are only a few minutes stroll from the house - a riverside bar, and boulangerie. The village is ideally placed for easy access to all the historic attractions - including the prehistoric caves, medieval chateaux, the renaissance city of Sarlat, the bustling centres of Bergerac and Perigueux - and the golden-stoned villages and farms whose produce is sold at the numerous markets that are such a feature of this region.

Comments from the Guest Book: 'This is the most enchanting house in a magical village. We have loved every moment and wanted for nothing!' L&J 'It's more like sharing your home than renting a house. Thanks to you both for your care, kindness and friendship during our stay. Many wonderful memories.' K&K 'We made a decision that when we went on holiday to never be more uncomfortable than we would in our own home - but this has certainly gone beyond our expectations.' J&B 'I could have eaten in the restaurant every night - the food is fab!!...and, of course, the house - we've loved it!!' A&R 'The accommodation certainly beats anything that we have rented before and so we have felt very comfortable.' E&J 'Here we are again! So impressed were we in April that we just had to rebook. We found the place to be every bit as enchanting as first time around.' J&L 'We waken this morning with a touch of regret that we are leaving after a fortnight that has fulfilled our every expectation. The house is perfect.' A&J.

The village and region: Limeuil is a virtually unchanged medieval walled village, without any through traffic. It rises above the Dordogne river, and is within easy driving distance of Sarlat, Bergerac, the caves at Les Eyzies and Lascaux, the Chateaux of Beynac and Castelnaud, Domme, Belves and all the other picturesque and historic sites of the region. Fresh produce markets, a notable feature of this area, abound in every village and town.

Additional benefits: We will be pleased to reserve you a table for supper on your first night at the local restaurant, a stroll away from the house. A full range of quality linen and towels, including all bed linen, bath and hand towels, kitchen tea towels, towel and napkins, is also available for £25 per week. We can provide you with a route from Bergerac, Bordeaux or other local airports, or the Channel ports. For your arrival, we can also supply you with our Welcome Basket containing a selection of wine and refreshments for two, and breakfast, to get you started (£15 for two). You may be interested to know that we own another superior holiday property in the same area. Un gite magnifique!

Brian and Janet West Yorkshire, UK
Review Submitted: October 18, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Having stayed in many gites over the past 25 years this must rank as one of the best, if not the best. The gite itself was extremely comfortable and well equipped. It was very clean and maintained to the highest standard. The proximity to superb restaurants made it very special. The location was ideal for seeing the local area which is full of beautiful villages often with fantastic markets. We also visited a number of gardens locally. The fact that the house features on the Limeuil tourist trail only adds to its uniqueness. The owners, Belinda and Michael, were very welcoming without being obtrusive and the information they provided in the gite was absolutely wonderful and so useful. A truly exceptional gite!
Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post your review of 'The Old Courthouse', Brian and Janet.......... There is really no comment that we can add!!

Beautiful house in charming setting

Fran&Mike London, England
Review Submitted: October 17, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We've stayed at La Maison de Justice on two occasions. We've been very impressed with the house, which is wonderfully well-appointed and comfortable. Michael and Belinda have taken great care to make the house a "home from home" and to provide everything the visitor might require.

The village of Limieul is very attractive and certainly deserves the description of being one of the prettiest in France. There are two excellent restaurants in the village, and the views of the Dordogne and the Correze are stunning.

We have used the bikes which are available with the rental of the house to explore the surrounding countryside and villages and there is a great deal to see and enjoy. Nearby Le Bugue has a large and interesting market, and there are locally organised events in the nearby villages, especially during the summer months.

We have been made very welcome, and we've thoroughly enjoyed our stays in this peaceful and historic setting.

Fran & Mike, London
Owner's Response: It was really nice to see you here again, Fran & Mike. The success that we enjoy with our repeat visitors is obviously the real test of the quality of your holiday experience!

Ideal Dordogne Location

Phlyn Cumbria
Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
La Maison de la Justice (The Old Court House) in Limeuil is a one bedroom Gite full of character. The comfortable lounge above the archway has an enormous stone fireplace, the spacious bedroom also has interesting features and the kitchen/dining room has everything you need. Sitting on the balcony under the Linden tree with its beautiful flower scent was truly relaxing in the evening.
There are many good shops/supermarkets in nearby Le Bugue. There is a very good restaurant within a short walk and some excellent restaurants in adjacent villages.
Limeuil is an ideal base for exploring this part of the Dordogne. It is also an ideal location for walking, cycling and canoeing; there are 2 bicycles available at the Gite. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to any couple who are looking for a quite location but within easy reach of all amenities!
Owner's Response: .......... and the proof of your kind compliments is that you have already booked to come back next year! We look forward to seeing you again.

La Maison de La Justice

Colin and Linda Oxfortdshire, UK
Review Submitted: November 1, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
Thoroughly to be recommended. We spent a week there in October to celebtrate our thirtieth wedding anniversary, and spent much of the time on the terrace in the shade of the limetree, looking out over the rooftops to the other side of the valley. The walking is excellent, and it's well worth making use of the bicycles that are provided. They're extremely well-geared and go up even steep hills with surprising ease. It's useful to have a large scale map as the smaller lanes and tracks aren't easy to discover on the smaller scales; Google seems to provide what you need (names of hamlets and lanes that correspond to what you see on the minor signposts, of which there are many) but we didn't discover that till we got home. Limeuil is a village rather than a town, but everything you neeed can be bought at the Intermarche ten minutes away by car in Le Brugue; if peace and quiet is what you prefer, and you can forgo immediate night-life, this place is perfect: nothing to be heard at night except the owls and the occasional bray of a donkey. We found a meal at the local hotel rather disappointing and overpriced, but comments in the guest book make it plain that we're in a minority. The bar beside the river does excellent quiches and omelettes at midday, though (in October anyway) is closed in the evenings. The house itself contains everything you might need in the domestic line, but the real pleasure of it is its atmosphere and setting; it's beautifully furnished and decorated as a home, and before you've been there ten minutes, you feel it's your own home, even down to the pleasures of English radio and tel;evision on tap. The owners are nearby and take the trouble to come and meet you, and to see that everything is as you would wish; and you feel sure than in a crisis of any kind, they'd be more than willing to come and help. We found this the perfect place to spend time, and as a centre for exploring this beautiful region of France. We would very much like to be able to return, and have already recommended it to friends.
Owner's Response: Thank-you for your wide ranging comments, Colin and Linda - some really useful 'on-the-spot' input for future guests.
Needless to say, we were delighted that you chose the Old Courthouse as a special venue for your 30th Anniversary - congratulations once more to you both!

La Maison de la Justice

Paplaysgolf Horsham, West Sussex, UK
Review Submitted: October 17, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
Limeuil is a wonderful old hill-top village perched on its site overlooking the confluence of the Vésère and the Dordogne rivers. It has been most sympathetically preserved and is now a huddle of lovely old stone buildings clinging to the hillside. La Maison de la Justice forms a delightful part of this preservation, with the building itself complemented by modern services and a particularly comfortable sitting room. Lunch on the terrace is not to be missed, nor is a small diversion to feed a sugar lump or two to the donkeys, en route to a pre-dinner aperitif at the riverside café. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there at the end of September, taking advantage of the many attractions that there are to offer in the area, even including a couple of good golf courses.
Owner's Response: So pleased that you enjoyed the comforts of the 'Old Courthouse' - the comfort of the sofas and chairs in the Sitting Room (and, of course, also the bed!), is most important for our guests, we think.
Also pleased that the house was a good base for your golfing. The French have become increasingly aware of the popularity of the game, and Dordogne in particular has seen a considerable growth in non-membership courses for all levels of handicap.
We look forward to seeing you again!
