A charming oceanside cottage overlooking Cape Split Harbor is available for vacation rentals year round .Located in a quiet, remote fishing village, the cottage is only one hour and fifteen minutes northeast of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and forty-five minutes southwest of Machias. The cottage has beautiful views of the harbor from the panoramic windows in the living room. It also has delightful gardens stocked with shasta daisies, rose campions and pansies (to name a few). There is garden furniture on the lawn overlooking the flower beds and the ocean. There also is a porch with furniture on the front of the house for morning coffee in the sun. Enjoy fresh vegetables from our organic garden. Equipped with all modern conveniences (oil central heating, washer, dryer, television, microwave, coffee maker and blender) the cottage is very comfortable. It sleeps from two to five although it would be more comfortable for smaller groups such as two or four.

There are many beautiful walks right near the cottage which overlooks Eastern Harbor. There is also a lovely sandy beach close by. Local amusements include: a trip to the wharf to buy lobster, fishing off the wharf, Burnie's Beach, the Town Landing picnic area, or a walk to Bar Island (at low tide). It is an excellent location for kayaking or canoeing with the shore road adjacent to the property. It's also a great location for bicycling with very little traffic. Other nearby excursions include a Puffin Trip to Machias Seal Island (taken from Jonesport), Columbia Falls Pottery Shop, Tall Barney's Restaurant, Bartlett Winery Estate (for wine tastings), Roque's Bluff State Park, Schoodic Point and the Ruggles House.

We have a pellet stove which is very easy to use and we supply pellets We have a vegetable garden with organic vegetables in season. The owners are film makers (we have been making films for Maine PBS for 26 years) and we have available for use before or during your stay, an hour long show we have made called 'Postcards From Way Down East' which contains 37 chapters showing the many activities to do locally. There is one bedroom upstairs with two twin beds which can be pushed together for greater coziness, as well as a bedroom loft with two twin beds which is reached by a loft ladder. For groups larger than four, there is a built-in bed in the dining room. Small pets may be allowed - please ask owners.

Relaxing holiday with a view

Our vacation week in the small but cozy cottage in Addison ME, had all the ingredients we could ask for and more. The cottage was decorated in light colors, it was clean and well maintained. Large windows facing the bay gave us wonderful views of the water were fishermen worked and bald eagles were cruising above. The vegetable garden provided us with lettuce, sweet peas, carrots and more. With the nearest grocery store located about 30 minutes drive from the cottage and not that many restaurants near by, the best way to get your dinner was to walk down to the wharf and buy fresh live lobster straight from the boat and prepare them yourself. Together with the fresh chanterelles, a wild mushroom that we picked in the vicinity and the sweet wild strawberries and raspberries that were found every where, we got a 3 course dinner worthy of a 5 star restaurant for a fraction of the cost. Within driving and walking distance, there are plenty of nice hiking areas, most of them without the usual tourist crowd. This place is well suited for couples who are looking for peace and quiet and don't mind driving a bit to get to civilization. Bring books, DVD's and good hiking shoes and you will be all set for a wonderful week in South Addison.

My family and I had a relly relaxing vacation in this cottage in the picturesque village of Addison. It gave the ideal base to explore the "down east" area of Maine and also the Canadian maritime provinces. If more people in England knew about this area I am sure they would enjooy as we did. The cottage itself had all that was needed for a comfortable stay and a great shower also.

I have very fond memories of staying in
the cottage in South Addison, walking
to the little harbor to buy fresh
lobsters for lunch,,, and supper as it
was so cheap! The view of the little
island in front of the cottage is
soothing as is the ocean. Enough to be
inspired. All the little villages
south are beautiful and there is a
magnificent park, the name of which
escapes me just now, that is North. I
really enjoyed staying there.
