Built in 1839 and located in the historic village of Somesville on Mount Desert Island, Central House has been modernized to include up to date appliances and amenities as well as newly renovated bathrooms and new windows. Downstairs are a large kitchen with eat-in counter, adjoining breakfast area with table and chairs with view of Somes Brook, living room with pellet stove; den with satellite TV and DVD/VCR player, Playstation2, games and books for children and adults; and a bathroom w/shower. Upstairs are four bedrooms: l queen, 1 twin or king (2 twins combined}, 1 with 2 twins, 1 queen futon (this room can also be used as an office), and a full tile bath. An additional bedroom and bath with shower (attached to the property) are available for standard rates+$300. The house features two porches: a large screened-in porch, accessible from the den, overlooking Somes Brook and furnished with table, comfortable chairs and gas grill; and a side entry porch w/Adirondack chairs.

Central House is located near the geographic center of Mount Desert Island and is very close to the tip of Somes Sound. This provides easy access to all areas of Acadia National Park while being only a few minutes from shopping and restaurants in Southwest Harbor (4-5 miles), Bar Harbor (8 miles) and Northeast Harbor (7 miles). A service station, well-stocked convenience store, post office and bank are a mile away. Somesville itself is home to a great bookstore, quiet library, antique shop, museum, and a historic cemetery. There is also a conveniently located stop for the free Island Explorer bus.
