Seclusion without isolation, this Saltbox style house was built in 1992 and is located on the Schoodic Peninsula, between Prospect Harbor and Corea. Minutes from Acadia National Park, fine restaurants, galleries and the Winter Harbor ferry to Bar Harbor. Very private and secluded 5-1/2 acre setting on the ocean facing West Bay. Full basement and fireplace. Wide plank pine and ceramic tile flooring throughout, pine paneling & skylights. Perfect for 3 couples - 2 BR each with king beds, 1 BR with twin beds (these can be made up into a king) accommodate six. Fully equipped kitchen, ceramic counter tops and all appliances (all new SS appliances October, 2008). House is tastefully decorated throughout. Built-in radio/intercom with speakers in all rooms plus exterior speaker on patio. Large outside deck with wicker furniture and brick patio facing the ocean. Washer & dryer in basement. Direct TV.Two car garage with remote. Two kayaks for use at your own risk, with paddles and PFD's

Directions to property - follow US 1A from Bangor to Ellsworth, connect with US 1 North in Ellsworth, follow US 1 North to Rte 195 (also called Pond Road), right on Rte 195 to Prospect Harbor. Follow Rte 195 towards Corea and turn left on Paul Bunyan Road. Detailed directions will be mailed or emailed upon booking confirmation.

A Peaceful Getaway

My husband and I would highly recommend this lovely home. We stayed for two weeks. We already miss being there.The view from the porch was so calming as you watched the lobster boats and listened to the gulls and the soft sounds of the nearby brook. We often took daily trips to Acadia National Park and Schoodic Peninsula yet truly enjoyed just spending time in the well -furnished house. Every bedroom had multiple pillows(--just like in Better Homes and Gardens!) The color schemes were so coordinated and pretty. The beds were very comfortable and roomy. We actually slowed ourselves down to enjoy nature and read multiple books while sittiing on the deck. The hummingbirds would just continue to visit the feeder undisturbed by our nearby presence. I took many pictures so that I could preserve the memories of this beautiful home..During high tide, we enjoyed using the kayaks. The water was calm and the kayaks were easy to maneuver. Now I understand why so many cars have kayaks attached to their hoods. Maine has perfect quiet inlets to kayak .
If you visit this area, be sure to check out the many small quaint shops such as U.S. Bells, a craft shop called Chapter Two in Corea, the 5&10 shop and the Works of Hand shop in Winter Harbor.We saw harbors filled with lobster boats, perennial gardens surrounding homes, and art galleries.The huge granite rocks that line the shoreline in Maine are mind-boggling. We saw artists in several towns painting landscapes and harbors. We also went on a whale watching expedition out of Bar Harbor and a sightseeing cruise out of Northeast Harbor (a naturalist explained facts about the area and lobsters). A memorable vacation! Our thanks to the owners for providing such a clean and well-furnished home.

Beautiful and comfortable

This home was lovely and easy to visit. We (two couples) stayed here for the last week of June 2009 and in spite of less than perfect weather, we had a wonderful time. The house itself is beautifully and comfortably furnished with everything you could wish for. The pictures are very accurate and there are newer appliances in the kitchen which makes it even better. If you like to cook, this house is very well set with many pots and pans, great utensils and two full sets of dishes. Also wine glasses, etc...The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and the beds are firm and cosy. There were more than enough pillows, blankets, etc. Lots of closet space as well. The bathrooms are clean and everything works well.

The Schoodic peninsula is beautiful and not highly touristed, so a great getaway from the usual tourist areas of midcoast to south coast Maine. The towns are small and friendly but if you are looking for big shopping, this is not the peninsula for you. It is an easy 40 minute drive to Mt. Desert Island and Ellsworth if you want more shopping, but if you want to bike, hike, kayak or just relax, this is the place. Biking is easy, mostly flat and ok for road bikers as well as mountain bikers.. The hiking in the Schoodic Acadia Point is limited (short trails) but beautiful and the cliffs, rocks and sand beaches there are quiet and lovely.

We saw two seals every morning from the deck and there is an adorable hummingbird couple who visit all day at the hummingbird feeder.. they are very bold and will come up to the deck even if you are sitting there. The deck is perfectly situated for watching the wildlife and the ocean with great comfortable outdoor furniture.

Wonderful, beautifully appointed home! Doug and Susan are great hosts and their "managers" Michele and Craig were responsive and helpful.

excellent vacation home

very thoughtfully decorated with elegant taste, great view and very eclectic collection of videos/music. a very nice home to enjoy schoodic Acardia. if you want to spend a main portion in Bar Harbor, driving could be a little bore, but can't complain considering what you are getting. i highly recommend this home.
Owner's Response: We're very pleased that Sydney and his family enjoyed their stay on the Schoodic Penninsula. A comment about time in Bar Harbor while staying at our home - there are two ways to get to Mt. Desert Island. The first is by car, which, as Sydney says, can be a drag with summer traffic. The better way is by way of the Winter Harbor ferry - a delightful 30 - 40 minute cruise. The ferry takes you directly to the Bar Harbor dock and has a very convenient schedule. For transportation on MDI, LL Bean runs a free bus or you can take bikes on the ferry. We hope to see Sydney and his family again!

Excellent viewswith an unbelievable porch, very very comfortable home, lovely owners, much appreciated king size beds, perfect service, we really appreciated the local lady assigned to answer all our questions and guide us to the home. The kayaks in the garage were also FABULOUS!!! PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT
