The Vermillion Ranch (800 acres) sits at the confluence of Sweetgrass Creek and the Yellowstone River. It consists of river bottom, 1 mile of Yellowstone frontage with mountain views, and meadows populated with wildlife. Excellent fly fishing in our area, and we can provide guides. We are 9 miles East of the quaint western town of Big Timber (2,500 pop.), a site for rodeos, country fairs and cutting horse events. Enjoy gourmet dining at the Grand Hotel, featured on the national historic register. For kids, a movie theater, golf course, and water slide are nearby. Explore the many hiking trails in National Forest Lands, the Crazy Mtns and the Absaroka/Beartooth Range. Swimming, rafting, and tubing on the rivers is great summer fun and uncrowded.

Additional information about rental rates

  • $1,800/week,10%discount after the 1st week on additional weeks. Taxes are on lodging, not ranch use.
  • The Harrison Homestead is also available on the ranch (sleeps 7) for $3000/week. Our 4 night minimum is $1,600 for the Lewis and Clark Cabin. Our Mongolian Ger rents for $250,(2 single beds, but no bathroom or electricity--see photos) if you are a client in the other houses.

    Many of our guests in both houses stay more than 1 week, and we offer a 10% discount on all weeks, following the first one. Cleaning or a change of linens, or both will be done weekly, at your request and is included in your rental fee.
  • Please ask about bringing pets and our requirements when booking them. $50/pet/week.

  • This 1878 cabin, which has been fully restored with all your comforts in mind, has a modern bathroom with tub/shower. We also have a clean, well kept outhouse for those who like the outdoors, and we find our clients' children find this curious and enjoyable to use! The cabin is located in a meadow with total privacy so you don't need to worry about any other people being around.

Upstairs there are 2 picture windows with side opening windows as well as 2 other double hung windows which open so there are great views from upstairs as well as downstairs. NEW This Year..Screened In Porch, Which Will Allow You To Extend Your Outdoor Relaxation Into The Evening Hours Outside! The nights are beautiful here with very late sunsets so you can observe the wildlife grazing and birds feeding.

Notes: Our new screened in porch and sunny deck seat as many guests as you would like with benches, tables and chairs. Both are great places to relax, read and watch the bountiful wildlife and birds in the surrounding meadows. Your basic needs are in the cabin to get you started--coffee, salt and pepper, flour, sugar, soap, etc. so you can settle in a bit before marketing. We will be here to help you, answer questions and point you in the right direction for your requests, if you wish. Overnight In Mongoloian Ger(Yurt): A new experience for 2010--our ger is comfortable with a wood floor,beds,,table and chairs, but no bathroom. It is an authentic ger with a hole in the top for ventilation and star gazing. This unique overnight is only for those who want a bit more adventure at our ranch. Fishing and hiking guides: Our 3 sons run Sweetwatertravel Co. and provide excellent and experienced guides for our clients. It is recommended that you hire guides early in your week for wade fishing, river floats, or jet boating so that you will learn how to fish our local waters. See the contact info on our Vermillion Ranch web site . The ranch link is just below this paragraph. Also, ask about our hiking guide, Felicia Ennis, who is congenial and capable. You will enjoy your days with the Sweetwater guides and our hiking consultant. We also can put you in touch with a large family ranch, where you can ride, so basically staying at our ranch is like having your own private dude ranch to enjoy with tons of privacy! Arrange your activites to suit your own time schedules, and don't forget to relax in the peace and quiet. If you are not the relaxing type, you can always connect to our high speed internet to keep busy. Also, bring your binoculars to view the deer, antelope and birds that visit daily.
