Villa Joya en Bayside:
Why be cramped up in a small room occupied by mostly the bed, when your family and friends can enjoy the comforts of an air conditioned home for about the same amount of money or less, when you enjoy the use of the kitchen. You don't have to make arrangements to meet in some public place ~ you walk out or your bedroom to the social areas of a home.
West Bay Beach:
Villa Joya is very nearly perfectly located at West Bay Beach. It is close to restaurants, shops, parks, dive operators without being on top of them. What it is ‘on top of’ is fabulous beach with coral within easy swimming distance. It has easy and quick access (2 minute walk) to the most popular beach on Roatan, at the same time having a very private deck within a few feet of the water. Due to its geographical location West Bay only really developed in recent times as a community of international expats living in small to large developments, some of which could be called resorts. Workers are bused over the mountain ridge each day from their homes in West End, Sandy Bay, Coxen Hole and Flowers Bay.
Activities:
Diving and snorkeling is what Roatan is about as we the best of the best while being the most affordable in the Caribbean. Roatan and the Bay Islands are part of the second largest barrier reef on earth. I see turtles, rays, lobster, squid, very large Parrot and Queen Angel fish, and many more varieties to numerous to mention. The coral is as varied as the fish and there is much of it all along West Bay. The Gumbolimbo nature park with zip line is a very short walk down the beach. There are several PADI dive operators from which to choose, one of which, Las Rocas, is right next door. West Bay has an art gallery and a variety of restaurants, including a deli and palapa bar with burgers. There are a few but very nice shops along with a video rental provider. And West End with many wonderful restaurants, bars and shops is a fun water taxi ride away.
