Approached by private driveway through spruce woods, this spectacular three bedroom house sits directly above the rocks of Maine's bold coastline. Views abound from every room: islands, sea and forest, seals and eagles, and lobstermen hauling their traps for your dinner. The wood burning fireplace in the large great room and another in the upstairs sitting room ward off the evening chills. The small boat landing and offshore mooring with a 6 ft draft, makes this an ideal base for Downeast cruising. Located across the Moosabec Reach bridge from Jonesport, Great Wass Island is beyond summer traffic and tourists. The Nature Conservancy has created hiking trails through heaths, Jack pine stands and peatlands on their 1,576-acre preserve just a short distance down the island from the house.

  • Rental period is Saturday to Saturday. Check in after 4:00 PM, check-out before 10:00 AM. One-half rent due at time of booking. If for two or more weeks, then one week's rent due at time of booking. Balance rent plus security deposit due 60 days prior to arrival. Cancellation refunds, less $75 administrative fee, only if replacement tenant may be found. $500 security deposit

Listen to chamber music in nearby Machias. View puffins and murres on visits to the outer islands. Bring your sailboat or motorboat and use our mooring (boat launch nearby). Bring your kayak or canoe and launch from the boat landing below the house. Search for antiques. Visit FDR’s Campobello home. Fish for trout in nearby lakes. Pick blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, blackberries, and gooseberries. Or just sit on the deck from dawn to dusk and enjoy watching the sunrise; the lobstermen pulling their traps with the seagulls circling their boats; eagles, hawks and all manner of ducks and waterfowl; seals sunning themselves on the rocks. Listen to the early morning birdsong and watch nearby islands change their shapes as the large tides rise and fall. And at the end of the day, enjoy the moon rise and the loons’ songs.
