Additional activities: Meander down old Cape Charles and sample some of the fine cuisine from the local restaurants. Stroll along the beach and watch the magnificent Chesapeake sunsets while sitting in a gazebo on the beach. Photograph children at play on the many sandbars during low tide. Have dinner on the schooner, 'Serenity,' and watch the sunset from the water. Check out what's playing at the Palace Theater or listen to some music in a downtown inn.

Tangiers Island: 20 miles off shore (you can cruise there) is an Island where time stands still. Most of the local residents still speak with an Elizabethan dialect. You'll enjoy the great seafood and local color. Take the tram ride around the island and watch the fisherman catch the fish that you might eat for lunch!

Chincoteaque Island: Stop and visit this natural wildlife preserve. See local birds, flowers and wild ponies. In July each year the ponies swim across to Chincoteaque and run through the downtown streets for a few hours in what's called a pony penning. Some other activities include crafts, woodcarving, decoys, food, and music. Also, visit Fisherman's Island which is a breeding ground for pelicans.
