We affectionately call this chalet 'The Sticks', this family-oriented home has a large dining room table and well-appointed kitchen. Two families could enjoy this chalet. It's just minutes from Bryce Mountain Ski Resort, which offers open trails from it's 1600ft peak. Shenandoah Valley offers more than just beautiful peace and quiet. Historic points of interest and unequaled hiking & biking trails are nearby. Or, take a day trip to Luray Caverns and experince natures awe. For your comfort at The Sticks, there are ample linens, premium cable TV, and a wood stove for cozy evenings (wood available on premises). Kids will enjoy bumper pool ,ping pong ,or videos in the downstairs recreation room. Bring your own binoculars or telescope, clear skies away from city lights.

Bryce Resort (a five minute drive), offers lighted tennis courts, 18 hole golf course, walking and nature trails, airport, deluxe restaurant and lounge, as well as downhill skiing and tubing (day\night skiing). Its a 15 min. walk to lovely Lake Laura for swimming and fishing. Canoes and paddle boats can be rented. The skiing and tubing park is open in the Summer for downhill grass skiing and tubing (tons of fun). Historic Orkney with the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival is a 10 minute drive. A Resort Fitness Center is nearby for your convenience. Children are welcome.No smoking and one small pet is okay. Many fine caverns, including Luray are less than an hour away.

The Master Bedroom's bath offers a jetted tub for one, a shower, and an overlook to the two story wall of windows facing the mountain, as well as the activity in the great room. The Master bedroom has an open view from the loft into the Living Room providing a spacious atmosphere to the bedroom.

The basment recreation area can be used as another bedroom with it's pull out hide-a-bed and private bathroom with shower.

Views: The views from the two wrap-around decks are fabulous. The decks are situated in a way to provide stunning sunsets with the North Mountain as the backdrop. Feel free to use the telescope (3 inch Bushnell Newtonian) to view the stars against the black background of space. Or gain a close-up of North Mountain. Scenic drives are fun along the country roads within the Valley. The Fall offers wonderful picture perfect views of the fall colors from either balcony.

Surroundings: The home is situated on the mountain side with enough land that the neighbors are barely visible. It's a short haul to the ski lifts and the Bryce Resort. It's a short walk to the Lake where there is swimming and canoeing and trails around Lake Laura. There is a Public Pool with tennis, horseshoe's and a playground for the youngsters.

With in a hour drive...: Luray Caverns, check out the most famous caves in the Metropolitan area. Or experience Sky Line Drive, enjoy the beautiful scenery and easy hiking to feel as you are at the edge of the world! There are lesser known caverns for serious spelunking. Shenandoah Caverns, Crystal Caverns, and Endless Caverns. They are not as famous as The Luray Caverns, but just as beautiful and less crowded. Check out the 'Bacon and Eggs' formation. Get up close and personal with the caves! These caves are for the kind of people who don't mind getting a little dirty. Advice... wear boots!! We have pamphlet's at the house for your convenience, that offer River Rafting and other awesome adventures. and other interesting sight seeing information.

Ski: Bryce Resort offers beginner to advanced skiing. With a wonderful 'Skiwee' program that allows children 4.5 to 8 years old to learn to ski. The Children are carefully watched and stimulated to enjoy there skiing experience, allowing Parents to get some precious time to ski on there own. Beginner lesson are available for Adults. Golf: Enjoy 18 holes of Golf on this unique course which wanders through the Shenandoah Valley. Golf amenities are just a five minute drive to Bryce Resort.

Long weekend in June

We stayed at The Sticks for a long weekend at the end of June. We rented it at the "last minute" and the owners were very responsive in handling our request. The directions provided were excellent, and we found the home with no problem. Having never been to the area, we enjoyed the location central (a couple minutes drive to both, it's walkable to the Lake but not with the kids, it was too hilly for them) to the summer amenities of Lake Laura and the Bryce resort where we tried the paddle boats, golf, and grass tubing. Resort was pretty much empty, very easy to get a tee time, and patake in the summer offerings. The house was very comfortable and homey, great selection of books and magazines. Beds were comfy, bathrooms were clean. The telescope was amazing. The kids really enjoyed the ping pong and bumper pool, great for a rainy afternoon. Kitchen was pretty well stocked with utensils, dishes, etc. Very nice place for the price. We may return for the ski season!

Nice getaway

My family and I stayed here for the roominess and the scenery. We enjoyed the large spacious living room and basement. We loved the view of the mountain outside of our deck. I would definitely stay here again.

The Perfect Retreat!

"The Sticks" was the perfect location for my retreat! I just stumbled onto this website through a Google Search and wasn't sure what I was getting into. Boy what a pleasant surprise to be so comfortable! Away from the world, in-tune with nature, and still with all the conveniences I could have asked for.

The mountain is beautiful. The natural springs refreshing. The quiet, natural noise so humbling. I was able to commune - read and write, sing and dance, run and play. Early summer in Bayse is just like summer camp growing up, especially having Lake Laura so close.

The surrounding communities are all pleasant and picturesque. The local Virginian Wineries were delicious and certainly provided ample compliment to anything and everything coming off the grill or out of the fully equipped kitchen.

I found the landlords professional and responsible. And obviously passionate about their property from what I could tell of the immaculate upkeep of the chalet. The space was a wonderland for just one person. But made me wish 10 of my closest friends were with me to share the peace that I found.

I look forward to my next visit and plan on making it in the near future.

Thanksgiving Holiday in the Mountains

This was a wonderful cabin to collect our family from DC, Connecticut, Alabama and Michigan. The accomodations were more than adequate for the 11 people we ended up with (kids on couches). We enjoyed walking down the hill to the park and even played a little football (Thanksgiving Day was 65!) I would not hesitate to stay here again, we drove around the ski resort which looked pretty nice. The owners of the cabin were very easy to deal with and very responsive to our questions.
