Long ago, Native Americans came here during the summer for cool breezes and abundant seafood. Today, visitors from the D.C. area and beyond flock to Rehoboth Beach — established as a seaside resort in 1891 — to enjoy those same features, and to relax on sandy beaches and in beachfront cafes.
Rehoboth is the most popular of the Delaware beaches. It combines small-town friendliness with beach-resort casual and a touch of style. Visitors can choose from riding a bike on the one mile boardwalk, enjoying the shops and amusement park at night, or just relax on the front deck of the house. The town's shops offer a lovely diversion, with everything from home fashions to hippie-style accessories. Just outside of town on Route 1, Rehoboth has become synonymous with outlet shopping (140 stores). (And Delaware has no sales tax.)
