Nothing Special

The first thing we had to do was clean all the crockery, cutlery, glasses etc., to remove food deposits left by the previous occupiers. To be fair to them, they were probably hampered by the fact the kitchen light was out and they no doubt had as much success as us operating the quirky dishwasher, whose soap dispenser wouldn't close or open, depending on what you wanted it to do.
Most of the towels provided had obviously been washed at some point with a red one that had left them (and us) covered in red flecks. Perhaps the person responsible was a previous guest, as prospective occupants should be aware they are expected to launder all linen etc. before they leave or face the prospect of a $25 surcharge, despite paying a cleaning fee, anyway.
We have rented many apartments in the States and elsewhere and have never been expected to do the laundry! These renters, however, claim it is common practice.
Do not pay much attention to the fact the building has a concierge, as you are supplied with explicit instructions not to trouble the doormen.
And finally, there is the matter of the building works a few yards away from the master bedroom, which start up at 7am every weekday morning and look set to continue for a good while yet.
Owner's Response: Truly sad about these comments , we have been welcoming guests from all over the world for a little more than 5 years and never had a bad review!
Most of our guests became friends after coming back several times, at least we hope and strive to make them feel at home!
If something is not exactely the way our guests expect or something is not working etc.. we encourage them to call us right away, in order to come and fix it!
I only wish our unhappy guest would have told us on the spot! We would have immediately send someone!
The apartment has absolutely everything you could hope and need and by NY standard is huge and extremely comfortable.
No one should ever have to clean at one's arrival which we try to make as easy as possible.
It does happen that light bulbs blow and we do have a supply on the front closet for our guest ! if our guest do not wish to change them , we could, if they call us, send someone right away, same , once again with any maintenance issue!
We charge a $175 cleaning fee with the possibility of a $25 discount if the guest accept to clean the linen ( it is absolutely not mandatory, it helps us and to show our appreciation we offer a $25 break ).
We do not ask for taxes or hidden fees and everything mentioned above is explained in writing to avoid bad surprises!
We had to explain to our guests that despite the fact that the building looks like a luxurious hotel with a concierge 24/7 or doorman 24/7 it is above all a private residence, doormen would not behave as they would in a regular hotel. ( they are though very friendly and helpful when we are nice and courteous with them !)
as far as constructions is concerned, New York is always on the move! it is pretty much the case for all big cities, there is some noise around, that is also part of the attraction, something is always happening! our neighborhood though, even being right at the center of everything is rather calm and peaceful , especially at night but above all extremely safe!
Louis and I will be very happy to answer all the questions our future guests may have about our place!
and once again in the eventuality of problems,a phone call and we would fix it immediately for you!
