A wonderful family vacation spot

We spent a long weekend at the house in June 2010. The owners were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The house was spacious with 2 BRs 2 BTHs downstairs and 1 BR and a large sleeping loft upstairs (with 5 beds) but no bath, and which is probably appropriate for kids 9+. The house has multiple sitting rooms, TVs, and a large dining room table. The backyard is shaded and wonderfully placed overlooking the river which has a mild current for part of the day, but on others becomes as still as glass. The water off the (shaky) dock is deep and can be cold, but the current is not an issue. It was wonderful for our teenage kids, but the water access and depth could be an issue for families with small children. For nature lovers, there is a constant serenade of birds, frogs and wildlife, visits from ducks and opportunities to watch fish spawning. The boating is nice (the house had 2 boats, a canoe + life jackets) as was the fishing (we caught some although too small to keep). It was all very peaceful and relaxing. There is an outdoor fire pit, and the neighbors were mostly invisible except for one or two who were exceptionally nice and helpful. The house was spotless, and there are plenty of interesting knickknacks about (a contest for your kids - how many ducks can you count?) There is a nearby country/convenience store which is very expensive; full grocery shopping is about a 20 minute car ride away. Nearby attractions include Ft. Ticonderoga (about a 45 minute drive) and outlet shopping in Queensbury (about a 25 minute drive). There was some minor road noise from nearby routes 87 and 8, but it was at worst a minor annoyance. Confirm with the owners whether the rental includes all linens (including towels). Bottom line - this is a wonderful place to retreat to with your (older) kids, and the owners are a pleasure to work with.
