Woodberry is a comfortably furnished three story house. A living room with fireplace; dining area w/ table for 8-10 plus additional seating for 5 at a side table and island; large, well-equipped kitchen with island and 3 stools; master bedroom (queen) and a full bathroom fill the first floor. Two bedrooms (2 twins, 1 queen) and one full bath are upstairs. A baby layette, collapsible crib, high chair and baby gates are available. A large bathroom is shared by these two bedrooms. Lower level (walkout) has two bedrooms (2 twins, 1 bunk bed). This level is liveable, but spartan; no curtains, pictures. Floor is smooth concrete with area rugs; awaits finished flooring. Bathroom floor is installed. Family room is cramped due to building equip./materials. The water side of the house has a deck with glass rails for an unobstructed view and a screened porch. The house is wheelchair friendly with entrance ramp and 3' wide doors on first floor; not legally handicap accessible.

Car: necessary
Woodberry is located on the NW side of the island. Beautiful sunsets. Our cottage is set off the road about 800 feet so you don't see or hear cars on Dunham Point Road. Our area is typical Maine woods with mostly summer residences tucked away along the shore. We have one neighbor within view, but are unaware of their comings and goings. A 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk will bring you to the dock at Sylvesters Cove. During the summer you can sit and watch fishing boats come and go and meet local summer residents. There's a tidal pool to the right near the beginning of the dock's boardwalk that's fun and safe for toddlers. Sylvesters Cove has a lovely beach for the bold swimmers in your group. If you kayak, you can put in easily at the cove for some Penobscot Bay kayaking. We are members of the Sylvesters Cove Yacht Club, and as our guests you have access to the dock.

    Pets are considered and a separate refundable $100 damage deposit is collected. We ask that pets be caged if left alone inside the house; that they not be allowed to make a disturbance outside and that they be kept off the furniture. We have a dog run. Please bring a retractable leash for use with the dog run.

Notes: Internet access is dial-up. You'll need to establish an account with a local provider. Intermittent wi-fi at the cottage. Libraries in Deer Isle and in Stonington have wi-fi hotspots. There is no television reception at our house (isn't it wonderful!). The TV is for viewing movies. We have a collection for children, young adults and adults. More DVD's ore available for rent from Burnt Cove Market about 6 miles away on Route 15A. Cell phone reception is spotty. Long distance calls off island require a calling card. If pets are accepted we require them to be caged when left inside; to not create a nuisance or noise outside; to be kept off the furniture or the furniture covered with a cloth; that you pick up after your pet, that they be kept on a leash when outside. Cabled dog run for leashed pets is on site. Please bring your own retractable leash for use with the run.

Thank you so much! We have loved our week-long stay at Woodberry Cottage. This gave our family the opportunity to have all 11 of us –three generations -- together for a vacation for the first time. And, it was absolutely wonderful. The cottage had all the comforts of home – everything we could imagine or need -- be it for cooking fresh lobster or a closet full of games for the evening. What an incredible view of the ocean and the sunsets! We had great fun with crab races down on the beach, watching the tides change, the trips into Stonington for ice cream, the amazing stars at night, and just relaxing. We even went swimming in the Lily Pond. Cold but good fun. This was a new experience for the grandchildren. I would highly recommend Woodberry Cottage and would love to return.

We are 2 married couples who visit Maine each year. We spent a week at Woodberry Cottage last fall. In a quiet, private, wooded, oceanfront location, the home is very attractive, comfortable and well equipped.If you want an authentic Downeast vacation amidst great beauty, this would be an excellent choice.

My wife and I spent a wonderful five weeks in Woodberry Cottage last year. The setting is idyllic; the Cottage immaculate, well designed and fully furnished. Everything you would need for a carefree vacation stay has been provided. Without a doubt, Woodberry Cottage is the loveliest vacation rental we have ever enjoyed, in Maine or elsewhere. We plan to return this summer for another five weeks . . . and hopefully many times after that.
